HELP - my double monitors go black when loading up the Sims 4

I have two monitors, and have no issues playing other games. When I double click on the Sims icon on my desktop, both my monitors go black, and the sound of my second monitor connecting and disconnecting plays over and over again. I can press the windows keep to get back to my desktop. When I hover over the Sims icon in my taskbar, it shows that the game loaded fine, but if I click on the icon to bring the game up again, my screen go black and the disconnect/reconnect sound of my second monitor starts all over again. I'm thinking this has to do with in-game graphics settings, but I haven't played the game in months so I don't know what they are set to, nor can I even see the game to change them anyway.

I have restarted my PC, made sure the graphics drivers are up to date, as well as removed all mods and CC from my Mods folder and restarted the game. None of these made any difference and I'm not sure what else I can do.

  • @AmariJae  Your in-game graphics settings are stored in Options.ini, inside Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4.  You can move this file to the desktop to reset the options to defaults: this spawns a new copy of Options.ini with whatever settings Sims 4 deems appropriate for your hardware.

If that doesn't help, try forcing the game to open in windowed mode.  Open the (new) Options.ini, search for fullscreen , and set it to 0 (zero).

If that doesn't help either, please try disconnecting your second monitor, just as a tes, and let me know what happens.  Regardless of the answer, please also run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

Thank you! I followed your instructions for the first step, removing the Options file to my desktop and opening the game. Something similar happened: my monitors went haywire, but the game started showing up on my first monitor while it kept changing size as my second monitor attempted to connect and disconnect repeatedly. It was a pain, but through it changing sizes on my first screen I was able to open up the game options in game and change it to windowed fullscreen. This stopped my monitors from going black and my second monitor reconnected and did not disconnect anymore.

This was so strange, as I'd never had this happen with any other fullscreen game before. I appreciate your help very much!
