how do I get the new sims 4 content patch?

It should be 1.51.77
If it is, try repairing your game through Origin (right-click on the game and choose repair)

Thank you for your suggestions! My game version is 1.51.77.1020. I tried to repair the game via origin and then followed that with forcing the update again but nothing happened, and origin still says its up to date.
Do you think uninstalling and reinstalling would help? It takes a long time so I'm trying to avoid it but I can.
