I have 2 copies of the Sims 4: One on Steam and one on the EA app.

I downloaded the Sims 4 originally on Steam and Steam only, and of course, it came with the EA app. But then I got to thinking: Why do I even need Steam to launch it when I have the official EA app? So I deleted Steam, backed up my mods, and played the game only to find it barren, with my previous family completely gone and my mods not working, no matter how many times I turned CC on and off. I downloaded Steam again to see if it would solve the problem and nope, same results. Do I delete one of my Sims games? Do I delete both and start over? How do I get my family back? How do I get my mods to work again? Am I stupid? Please help.
