Info needed

I have a question for anyone who can help i currently play sims on a laptop and it is really slow with all my cc and mods. If i get a 1 terabyte external harddrive would that work  for it not to be so slow and lag every time i try to play or crash every 10 mins ??

Thank you

If you'd like me to look over your current specs, and make suggestions from there, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

hi sorry for not responding quicker  but i did that  run you suggested on my laptop  here is the attachment

and to your previous question i  dont think it is the storage cause  i was playing at one point with only base game  and i still had issues hopefully  you may have an answer for me on why its so slow  thank you

  • kaibear0203  Looking at your specs, it's not surprising that Sims 4 doesn't run well on your laptop.  I can't tell you whether the limiting factor here is the processor or its graphics chip or the 4 GB RAM, but what I can say is that an external drive would help with none of that.  Your internal drive is quite small but isn't close to full, and it's fast enough that a standard external drive wouldn't be an improvement and could be a lot slower.

One thing you can try is increasing the size of your computer's page file, which is somewhat small.  The page file is where the processor stores data that would normally be in RAM but doesn't fit, which would almost certainly come into play while it's running Sims 4.  Here's how to increase the size (option three):

    https://www.elevenforum.com/t/manage-virtual-memory-paging-file-in-windows-11.8618/#Three

Set the minimum to 12288 and the maximum to 16384, and restart your computer.  To be clear, this will only help with memory-related issues, and then only maybe; it won't do a thing for performance issues related to teh CPU or GPU.  But it's very possible that RAM is the limiting factor at least some of the time.

I would also suggest restarting your computer immediately before you want to play, and not opening any other apps at the same time.

Thank you for the info i just did it and  restarted  my laptop is there any settings on sims i should change

  • kaibear0203  That depends on what settings you're currently using and how the game is running now.  You can experiment with the settings if you want—this doesn't do any harm other than potentially wasting some of your time.  And unlike with Sims 3, Sims 4 doesn't have one or two settings with a much higher impact than the rest.
