Initialization error at start up

I did a repair of Sims 4 in Origin because two of my three extension packs were not working (the game itself was working). After I did the repair, the game fails to start and I get this error code:

Unable to start:

Initialization error at start up.

To try to fix this I have cleared the cache and ran repair once more, but still have the same issue.

I am playing Sims 4 Digital Deluxe version on Windows 10.

Any suggestions for how to fix this?

  • I found the solution: I uninstalled and reinstalled the game and all extensions through Origin: go to Origin and then to the game library. Next, right click on the game and choose uninstall (remember to do back up first)

Do you have any Mods or CC? If so move your Mods folder to the Desktop and delete localthumbcache.package. Then test the game.

If it works now check for updates to your Mods and CC. Add it back a little at a time while testing until you have found all that are broken.

  • Thanks for the suggestion @jpkarlsen ! Didn't work unfortunately. I also did a reset of the game (as describe here), but the still got the same error message when restarting
