Not sure what kind of issue this is...

Hi! I'm not sure where to post this question.

I cleaned up my mods and cc's after the update and reintroduced them all, on by one, back into my game. My game was running fine for the past ten days or so.

My game was running fine yesterday. This morning, I turned my game on and a notification popped up saying "Turn Off Auto-scaling with OS Setting?". The two options to select are "Keep Current Settings" or "Turn Off Auto-Scaling (Recommended)". Now when I select "Keep Current Settings" the game wont load fully. It starts to load, and then it stops just before getting to the main menu. If I choose "Turn Off Auto-Scaling" I get a notification stating "Unrecognized Video Card". Can anyone help me figure this out?

The game loads to the point of where I can see the green Sims emblem, with the info below that. Then the green emblem disappears, and only the info stays. Then the screen doesn't load past that.

Not sure about that issue itself since I've never had it, but when I've had that pop-up I know you can just ignore it by clicking outside of the box and it'll just get rid of it. Maybe try that and see if that helps? If not, maybe repairing could work. Best of luck!

  • The3dTeam  Please open Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 and delete Options.ini.  You'll get the first error again, but that doesn't matter and wouldn't stop the game from working by itself.

If you still can't play, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

puzzlezaddict I've followed your directions and I'm still getting the same "unrecognized video card" message.

There's also a pop-up message from Steam asking if I want to allow it to make changes to my device. I have clicked "no" and the game still has the same "unrecognized video card" message, and if I click "yes" the game doesn't load to the home screen. It's the same as I mentioned above "The game loads to the point of where I can see the green Sims emblem, with the info below that. Then the green emblem disappears, and only the info stays. Then the screen doesn't load past that."

I've attached the dxdiag file. I'm not a computer savvy person like most people playing the sims today lol. I'm used to installing the games from a cd drive. ;-)

  • The3dTeam  When asked if you want to allow Steam to make changes, or Sims 4 for that matter, you'll need to click Yes in order for the game to work.  It's clear that's not the only issue, but it would be a problem even if you addressed everything else.

The errors in your dxdiag are all crashes of the graphics driver, so please do a clean uninstall and reinstall of the driver, as described here:

    https://crinrict.com/blog/2019/02/clean-re-install-of-graphics-drivers-with-display-driver-uninstaller-ddu.html

Rather than using the very-newest driver Nvidia offers, try this one, which is new enough to be compatible with Sims 4 but old enough to have been tested thoroughly:

    https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/drivers/results/257496/

To be clear, you will still see the "unrecognized video card" error once per new Options.ini file (or per new Sims 4 user folder) because your GPU isn't in the game's database.  But that means nothing and causes no problems on its own.  Repeated messages mean that the Options file isn't recording the fact that you already saw the error, or that the file is being replaced, either of which IS an issue, but not a graphics issue per se.
