Install on wrong drive again/can't see mods

Sims 4 install & mods.  I have been struggling trying to get Sims 4 to install on the right drive.  I have a small drive just for Windows - SSD is it and then my large had drive.  That is where I want Sims 4 installed the large drive. I removed Origin, Sims 4 and started over.  Origin is now on the large "D" drive.

D:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 4

This is the game and all the expansion packs.

D:\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4

This is where I have the game with the MODS folder.  I have MODS there but they don't show up.

I also have this and I checked today.  This is where my saved gave saved.:

C:\Users\Jody\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4

What am I doing wrong with the install?  Why is Origin installing the game on both drives and only looking at the small C drive when I clearly indicated to install on D??

I have about the same SSD and hard drive setup that you do on the computer that I bought in 2017.  Because the SSD is much smaller (256GB) than the hard drive (2TB), I intended that all my games would run off of the hard drive but finally had to leave the Sims 4 game on my SSD because, while the base game installed on the hard drive ( D ) with no problem, all the packs refused to follow the base game as I expected and installed on the SSD ( C ) no matter what I did.  After trying for a day or so and failing to get the packs to install on the D drive, I gave up and just installed it all on the C: drive.  In the end, I'm glad I did as it runs much faster and smoother than it did on my previous computer where everything ran off the hard drive.

The Electronic Arts and The Sims 4 folder are installed on my hard drive.  I did some searching on the web and found a way to redirect my entire "My Documents" folder to my hard drive D: so all my data is on the hard drive and the program files reside on the SSD with the OS.  Now, anything that would normally get installed or saved in that folder automatically goes to that drive rather than the SSD.  So I suggest you try doing that.  I also redirected my Music and Pictures folder the same way and that saves a ton of space on the SSD.  I would include a link to the method I used but I can't find it atm.  But you should be able to find something by doing a search that will tell you how if you want to go that way.

Origin is still on my SSD as well as the program files for Sims 4 but I have a number of other games that were installed on the hard drive and run with no problems that way.

    Hope this helps.

  • @pawzsim  As mentioned, Sims 4 is programmed to look for user data in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4, and if it doesn't find any data there, it'll create a new folder with no content.  This is independent of where the game's program files are installed.

Do you want to move all of Documents to your D drive, or just your Sims 4 data?  For the former, you can redirect Documents to D easily enough:

If you only want your Sims 4 content on D, you'll need to use a symbolic link.  Here's how:

Either way, back up your essential Sims data before proceeding.
