Laptop for Sims 4

Hey y'all,

I'm in the process of deciding on a new laptop for myself and I was wondering if the one listed below would be good for Sims 4. I don't need excellent graphics, but I don't want it grainy. I also don't want it to lag.

I'm not planning on buying any expansion packs, just having the base game is good enough for me. Other than Sims, I would use it for light schoolwork and to download Spotify or something. Nothing too elaborate.

I was looking on some other forums/discussions and it said an AMD A8 Processor or above would be good? Just wanted to make sure that that was correct.

Thanks so much in advance!

  • Hi @Amme_Sniktaw,

The link you provide seems to be not working ☹️

An AMD A8 processor is not a bad choice, but keep in mind that AMD A Series are APUs, which includes CPU + GPU inside one "circuit". The integrated GPU should be more than enough to play The Sims 4, but if you want to play other games, maybe an Intel processor + dedicated NVIDIA/AMD graphic chip is a better idea.

I fixed the link if you want to take a look 🙂

And thanks so much for the suggestion and for explaining the way integrated vs non-integrated graphic chips work. I couldn't wrap my head around it the first time I read about it haha. Since Sims 4 is the only game I'll be playing on the laptop, I think I'll go ahead with the A8.

    Again, thanks so much!

That AMD A8 processor uses a R5 Graphics solution, which is not the best but it should allow you to play the game at mid settings at least. However, I'm not 100% that the performance would be good, it can be of course but I'm not really sure. Here you can find a list with all the graphic cards supported by the game, R5 for laptops seem to be supported, but you may need to low some graphics options in-game to get better performance.

I'll suggest at least to get a PC with more RAM, specially if you're going to use an AMD A Processor with integrated graphics chip, because APUs use RAM as video memory for the graphic chip. 6GB or 8GB may be a better idea than 4GB of RAM.

Edit: I've just seen some videos of that AMD A8 processor running Battlefield 4 at medium settings, so I guess you should be fine while playing The Sims 4 at medium settings too 🙂 However, I'll strongly recommend to get a model with more RAM.

I've been looking at a few others and I found the same model with 6GB of RAM. Thanks again. 🙂
