Last update 29/4/25

I updated the game, and after a few seconds it crashed.
I tried everything: removing mods, repairing...
I changed the folder name to "start" a new game, and then it worked.
I deleted some save files, and it also worked, but it was a file from 2017...
Should I put everything back the way it was and wait for a new update?

  • beacastill496  Try using your old Sims 4 folder except without the saves folder inside.  If that works, create a new save; no need to spend much time on it since this is just a test.  Save your progress, quit the game, and move your old saves to the new saves folder.  Make sure to renumber the new save if it conflicts with one of your older save names.

Then see whether you can load the game, and if so, your older saves.  You can use Load Game rather than Resume to choose another save.

Thanks for the reply, although I've tried it and it didn't work. I've also tried changing slot versions 1, 2, 3, and 4, but they're all corrupted. I think this was the trigger for me to stop playing Sims for good.
Can anyone give me any hope that this will be fixed with an update?

  • beacastill496  Does the game work with the saves folder removed or not?  EA is looking into the saves issue, and given the number of affected players, I would hope there's a fix at some point.

If you can't play with the saves folder removed, try a clean user folder instead.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs.

If that doesn't help either, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

I can confirm that my game works without saves and that the problem is with the last save, meaning it works with the old ones. Do you recommend me waiting for the next update?

  • beacastill496  I would keep the save around in case EA fixes the underlying issue, which may or may not happen quickly.  A lot of players are affected though.

I'd also be curious to know what mods you were using before, in case a particular mod is causing the problem.  If you're willing, please list the mods, with the exception of anything adult-oriented.  In that case, just name the creator(s) and I'll know.
