Live Mode UI Disappearing after exiting Build Mode, no Mods

Like the title says. I've searched for solutions but gotten none, because the problem with them is always mods-- Issue is, I've emptied my mods folder and run a completely fresh install, repaired the game through the EA App, etc... And the problem persists.

Regardless of what save I'm on, mods or no, etc, every time I exit build mode, the Live Mode UI completely disappears. I can still move around the world using my mouse and arrow keys, and the UI in the top right is visible, the button react to my mouse, but clicking on them does nothing. No matter what I do, I cannot make the game save, pause, play, or exit in any way, I must forcibly close it out with task manager.

Again, no mods, repaired game, regenerated all the cache folders, etc... I'm as confused as you are, trust me. Any help is appreciated.

  • @goblincore  Have you made sure you still have no mods or custom content present, that OneDrive hasn't redownloaded the deleted files for you?  Please double-check if you haven't already.

Otherwise, try playing in windowed mode and let me know whether it helps.  You can switch by opening the graphics options while at the Main Menu, or by editing options.ini to set fullscreen to 0 (zero).

  • Everytime I exit build and buy mode my game with freeze, I cant see their moodlets or any buttons on the bottom of my screen and it  looks like when I press tab. I  can't control the sims when this happens and can't even save my game

Hello! I am certain that there were NO mods or custom content in my game, I took out my entire mods folder and let it refresh a new, empty one when the problem started. I'm quite used to outdated mods, so I can troubleshoot most issues through the 50-50 method, but this one is bugging me. There were no mods present.

I also play exclusively in windowed mode!

Also, I eventually wondered if the Save itself was corrupted in some way, so I deleted it (with great hesitance, it was my favorite!) and restarted on a fresh, no mod save with the same sim (I saved her to the gallery). Within ten minutes, I saw the same issue show up, and decided that maybe the Sim herself was the issue. I made a new sim on a new save in a different world, and within 10 minutes, again, I saw the same issue show up. I messed around with mods and CC for a while, and decided to just see if there was a specific thing that triggered the UI to bug out. I got the issue without mods, too, so I decided that mods might not be the answer.

A few hours into this save, with mods (MCCC, Better Exceptions, and hair/clothing) I had absolutely NO issues until randomly, I received a 'UI Exception' report from Better Exceptions. I checked if the UI bugged out when I exited build mode-- Yep. I have no idea what triggered it, it seems completely random. Now, even without any mods, any time I go into build mode, the UI disappears, essentially making this safe, too, completely unsalvagable.

Quite the pickle! I guess I might have to try playing with no CC at all for a while and just... see if the issue shows there, too? If so, I figure it might just be a persisting bug in the game.

Update: better last exceptions by twistedmexi tells you what errors are being caused by what mods. I loaded up the new save after the error occurred (I did not save) and Better Exceptions instantly alerted me that the error occurred again, and told me what mods would cause it... Which is none. I got rid of all my UI mods. The error is occurring not as the result of mods, and once it occurs, it seems the save is ruined.

Update 2: To confirm that it WASN'T an issue with mods, I completely took out the entire Sims 4 folder, then booted the game up to make a brand new, fresh folder. I made a sim, put her down, and the moment I exited build/buy, bam! The bug was back again in full force. So, this ISN'T a problem with Mods, I also repaired the game, twice, and I'm going to do a complete reinstall of the game now.

@goblincore  Sorry for the late reply.  When this happens without any mods present, do you get a lastexception or lastUIexception?  If so, please upload that file.  And before doing anything else, delete all the exceptions that currently exist so you're only uploading a newly-generated one.

To upload the file, you can simply copy and paste the text (please use a spoiler), attach the .txt file (please delete the first line), or create a .rar and attach that.

Don't worry about it, take your time!

I get a lastUIexception, not a lastexception. I ended up reinstalling the Sims completely since repairing the game didn't seem to work. Since then, I haven't had the disappearing UI bug again, but a lastUIexception file has appeared in my game. Not sure what that's about. I only have the old lastUIexception files from BetterExceptions, which lists nothing, but I'm not sure what the new lastUIexception file is. I'll upload the new one, if you know how to read them properly I'd really appreciate if you could help me figure out what was causing this new one.

I'll add my old files into the new Sims directory and play some to see if I get the UIexception and disappearing UI bug again, and upload that as well.

    For clarification:
The attached file is from a new UI Exception file, but did not cause the disappearing UI bug I am experiencing. I would just also like to know what's up with this if you have the time. In the mean time, I will try to see if the disappearing UI bug will happen again on a fresh install.
