Lot not saving to library

I've had this problem before but it just keeps on persisting. When I try to save my lot to library, I get an error message that says this item can't be located. It happens when the first thumbnail picture doesn't show up.

Once it does that, it will load the rest of the thumbnail pics but I'll be unable to escape the save lot screen to go back to game and I'm unable to open the options menu, forcing me to crash my game.

I though maybe it's the lot where the build is placed but I've saved 4 other houses on this very lot in the same game save. Then suddenly this happens out of nowhere.

I play on PC, I have all EPs except Cats and dogs and University, all GP except Realm of magic and outdoor retreat, all SP except my first pet, bowling and tiny living. I removed all cc and mods even did the moving folder to desktop thing even though some of my builds do save.

And i always clear out my tray folder since in the past I was told a full tray folder might be the issue. But now even with an empty folder the problem is occurring. Also I don't have any antibvirus blocks and I play offline all the time.

@KingBasieSims4 I am guessing that there is something in the Mods/CC that you removed that may be conflicting with your game. Maybe it is a conflict with the new patch? It could be a number of things. There can also be remnant items from the removed Mods/CC left in the game cache, which was the reason for deleting the localthumbnailcache.package. Also, the reason for the game repair is to have Origin replace any files that may be different than they should be or missing.

If your game is lagging you can do several things to help it out:

    • Play in offline mode
    • Play in windowed mode
    • Don't put your graphics settings in 'Game Options' up high - keep them more in the medium quality range
    • Uncheck uncompressed sim textures, post processing effects in 'Game Options'
[If you're on Mac, you can experiment with unchecking retina (doing this seems to have mixed results)]
    • Make sure your computer and your graphics cards are updated
    • Make sure your game is updated
    • Don't store a lot of items in your library
    • Clear your cache regularly
    • Keep a limited number of game saves in your game
    • Check if your computer's graphics are a bit taxed by the game
    • Run a game repair occasionally
    • Use caution in how much you add to your game, including how many Mods/CC, and make sure they are always up to date and comparable with the game's current version

If the problem re-occurs, or you are having quirky stuff start to pop up again, there is some great troubleshooting advice at this link. You may want to try the game reset next time. That's the next thing I was going to have you try: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues-PC/READ-FIRST-Troubleshooting-your-Game/m-p/3621199

  • @KingBasieSims4 There are a few parts of your process that may be interfering with the results you want. For one, it is tru that if your tray folder is overly full it can cause some issues, but emptying out your tray folder will empty out your entire Library in the game. If your Library ever gets very large, I would recommend you delete some of the 'extra' things you no longer want/need from within the game Library.

Try the following in this exact order without skipping any steps, even if you’ve done some of these steps already:

    • Exit your game then exit Origin. Drag the Mods folder from your ‘The Sims 4’ folder onto your desktop (for future reference) then delete the localthumbnailcache.package file in your ‘The Sims 4’ folder. (When you restart the game it will automatically create a new Mods folder.)
    • Run a game repair [ Open Origin, click ‘Game Library’ then right-click Sims 4 > Repair Game ]. Make sure to let it run until it has completed all repairs (it will do the base-game first, then run through each of your expansions/packs).

Do not re-add any or your Mods or CC at this time. Restart your game and do not enter your previous game-save but begin a new game. See if the issue is present in this new game-save.

If this fixes the issue you can re-add your Mods/CC one at a time to see which were conflicting with the function/causing the glitch – but do not re-add the old Resource.cfg file from the old Mods folder, as it is possible for it to have become corrupted.

If this does not fix the issue we will do a reset next, but please try all of these steps first.

I removed my folder again and started up the sims. Then checked my old saves and was able to save the lots from those save.

Returned to the save that was giving me trouble and it still wouldn't save that one lot. I even removed all furniture and terrain paint then tried to save but it wouldn't save. I crashed the game again, and started the process over again by removing the folder and letting the sims generate a new one. When I started it over it finally saved the lot from that specific save.

My problem is if it happens again. I don't enjoy crashing my game in order to exit because when I restart the game it lags like crazy and makes it impossible to play. I've struggling with this save for 2 days now and only now it did what I needed.

Do you know of a permanent fix to this that I wasn't able to find in my search of this bug? I normally build without cc to avoid any lags so my builds are always vanilla when I save them to Library.
