[MAC] - Sound keeps Crackling / Popping

Hi. I just installed sims 4 for mac last night and I hope someone can help me with this. My sound keeps crackling, it's not continuous it just comes and goes but it's definitely annoying. I though it may happen only with high pitch noises but now I'm not sure. I have searched all forums about this problem and haven't found anything that worked. I have tried to change my audio settings and fixing the game on origin but nothing happened.

OS X Yosemite version 10.10

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013)

Processor 2,4 GHz Intel Core i5

Memory 8 GB 1600 MHZ DDR3

Graphics Intel Iris 1536 MB

I'm running Avast Mac security

I had my spotify on but I turned it off and nothing happened.

I'm not using any CC/mods.

Thanks 🙂

  • Hi @carlostrabulo,

    Sounds like a weird issue, possibly hardware-related, but let's try.

    Please read this Apple article in order to reset your PRAM and try again your game. Also, please mute your speakers and check if that crackling sound continues.

    I reseted my PRAM but it did nothing. If I mute my speakers I hear nothing.

    I don't think it's hardware issue, because I checked if with my headphones the noise would stop but it doesn't. With music, movies and other games it doesn't happen.

    Thanks  🙂

    @carlostrabulo

    Are you using any extra program like Boom to increase the volume of your spearker?

    @carlostrabulo

    Have you checked your sound settings in System Preferences?

    This does seem to randomly happen to some Mac users, not sure why. I remember reading about someone who had Boom installed, as @fons_garmo has mentioned, and uninstalling it fixed the issue but if you don't have anything similar installed then that's not relevant.

    Tried turning off your antivirus and seeing if that helps?

    My sound settings are normal. I turned off my antivirus but it did nothing.  ☹️
