Major Game Problems since EA App

Hey y'all. Ever since they switched from Origin to the EA launcher, a few problems have been happening.

1. Game loads WAY to slow. Like, by the time it loads after I launch my saved game, my time that I had to play is over. I'm talking 20-30 minute load times, even when I'm going to and from CAS and build mode, or traveling. Everything on my PC is fine, I have plenty of space and RAM for it, and this never happened before the changeover to the EA launcher.

2. The Sims 4 individual application is gone from my computer--I can only access it through the EA app or Steam, so I can't play the game offline.

3. The game is so buggy. I've changed all the settings I can to ease up on the system, but half the time I can't click on things, Sims, pets, or anything to bring up the actions menu. Everything moves so slow. I'll hit pause for a second to go do something and come back, hit play, and it will still be paused for minutes afterward.

4. Every time I go to save the game, it takes way too long and then crashes and opens the EA app, with none of my changes actually saved.

Again, it shouldn't be my computer. There's hardly anything else on it and every spec is up to par. I've uninstalled and reinstalled EA, I've uninstalled and reinstalled Steam, I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Sims 4 itself multiple times, both with and without all my expansion packs just to see if it'll freaking speed up. Any other suggestions? I'm ready to peace out altogether which is a bummer since I've put so much money into the game but it's unplayable.

  • @lubner01  As a test, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you moved but temporarily not read by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and let me know which problems are still present.

Please also run a dxdiag and attach it to a post, for reference.

And I take it you're currently playing Sims 4 through Steam, but let me know if that's not the case.

@puzzlezaddict No problems seem to be present when I do what you suggested, everything runs smoothly.

Yes I do play it through Steam usually, but have recently just been accessing it through the ea app. I'm on mobile right now so unable to run a dxdiag at the moment

@lubner01  It sounds like most or perhaps all of the problems are related to content in your old Sims 4 folder, either mods and custom content or your old saves.  You can try copying over one of your saves, but nothing else yet, and seeing how it runs.  Since you're copying rather than moving the save, you can freely experiment on the new copy while the original stays intact in the old folder.  Please let me know how an affected save runs, and we can go from there.

I would like to see a dxdiag eventually, but it's not necessary at the moment since the next troubleshooting step is clear.
