Mods/CC not working

I just recently got a new laptop and have been playing the sims 4, but when I try to install mods or custom content, they don’t show up. My mod scripts are enabled and I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling the sims 4, but it still doesn’t work. The CC is up to date, and I tried to see if deleting cache files or localthumbcache but I don’t have any of those files. My game/folder is on an external drive, but I don’t believe that’s the issue. I’ve tried everything, but it still won’t work. Does anyone know what the issue could be? ☹️

@lynbill When you change the default install location the game installs only the game core files to the new location but the user data files are still created in the user documents folder. You can move this folder by using symbolic link. WARNING symbolic link is a powerful tool and if used incorrectly can (and sometimes does) corrupt your operating system - you have been warned. Here is a link to use symbolic link - using symbolic link -

  • From what I can tell, it doesn't matter where your game is installed. Your mods go into C:\Users\[Your username]\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Mods which might be the issue with your mods being properly run and loaded.

Keep in mind, the mods folder by default can't go deeper than a few folders, which can prevent the game from looking deeper and loading them.

Thank you! I’ll try it out to see if it fixes my problem.

I did, and realized my sims game was in the one drive files, but I moved the file to my external drive and uninstalled one drive, so I don’t believe that’s the issue.

Thanks for the reply! I’m putting the mods in the correct folder, I tried straight up putting them in the mod folder, as well as putting them in specific folders like “cc hair”, but neither worked.

Your CC needs to go in the games mods folder (you can create subfolders to better organize your CC). The Mods folder are normally placed here: Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Mods
