Moving sims 4 to external SSD drive!

Can anyone tell me a STEP-BY-STEP guide on moving the sims4 to an external SSD drive? I'm on a Windows 11 laptop and the SSD has TB storage if that's important to know!

I do have cc and mods but I've moved them to my desktop for now because I'm updating them. I've also already moved to the EA app.

@simsflame24  The process is the same in Windows 11 as in 10.  What part are you having trouble with?  If you're getting an error when trying to complete some step, please post a screenshot.

  • hi i tried to use this tutorial and it just says the path cannot be identified

@baybayb51200  Please post a screenshot of the Command Prompt window showing the command you ran and the error.  Please also list the location of the Documents directory as Windows sees it.  To find that, enter this exact command in Command Prompt:

reg query "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders" /v "Personal"

    and then post the result.

@maeve593  The location where you install the game itself has nothing to do with the location of the Mods folder and other user data.  That is always located in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4.  If you still don't see it, here's how to find the folder:

    https://sims4.crinrict.com/eng/2018/07/how-to-find-your-user-folder/

If you want your user data on your external drive as well, you'll need to use a symbolic link, as described here:

    https://crinrict.com/blog/2020/02/moving-windows-documents-folder-to-external-drive-via-symbolic-link.html

This folder can be almost anywhere, but do NOT combine it with the game's program files (what the EA App installed), as this can and will cause problems down the line.

If you need more help with this process, please list the full path to your user folder, where it's currently located, and where you want it to go.
