Moving Sims4 mods to a new computer

Got a new computer and I'm going to install Origin on it so I can continue playing my sims games, but I have cc and mods in my sims 4 game, will that transfer over as well, or do I need to do something extra?

  • Hi there @nikkitimesthree  missed your prior question yesterday, and got busy..

So how did you go copying the folders over? Or are you not sure of how.. various methods (and of course you can, they're just files afterall..)

1: Create a zipped folder each for mods, tray, saves / saved games, screenshots, recorded videos (if you want them too.)

2: Transfer them via 1: attach them as a file and email yourself, 2: use a portable hard drive or usb.

3: Extract them into the correct place ie: exactly as they 'looked' in the old computer.

There is also various apps to use to 'transfer files' I use Evernote a lot for that too (good for pix etc) also works from mobile to computer you can also invite other people to view documents etc and it also has a chat connected.

So use whatever method works best for you,

    Sasha

  • Hi @nikkitimesthree

Congratulations on your new purchase! With a new computer, I would definitely want to make sure it runs smoothly so with reference to your mods and cc I would treat them like a new update and not transfer them over in '.one', especially if you've bought this computer because of the Cats and Dogs Pack, a lot of mods and cc cannot handle it.. Also, if you've been playing with no problem on your old computer, then perhaps it's ok to go ahead and move the mods folder over.. but installing Origin, won't 'install' your cc and mods.. they would need to be copied over to your new computer and into your mods folder.

Do you have your cc in subfolders? As it makes it easier to sort and find if there are any corrupted files.. that way you can add a 'folder at a time' to find any problematic file. that may crash your game, by starting the game each time you add a folder, to make sure of no corrupted or broken mods / cc. Continue this until you have them all in your game with no problem..

I would also check game mods first (if you have any) & check for any updates on them, often for future reference as well. Sims VIP often does a large post on cc fixes.

Subfolders prove indispensable for when you have a lot of cc, but as I mentioned if you've played the Cats and Dogs version with no problem, you should be ok.. also, I'm somewhat presuming you have that pack, but even if not, I'd be cautious as it's a new computer.

    Hope this helps,

    Sasha

I've had Cats and Dogs for a while now, and I have no CC that conflicts with it, because I don't really use cc buy mode items or actual 'mods'. Mostly CAS things. I don't have any sub folders but I suppose that would keep things organized. But how would I move my mods folder over to the new computer once I get origin set up?

You copy the mods folder and put it in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods.... like where you put them usually.

Also copy and paste the Saves and Tray folders if you want everything @nikkitimesthree

Are you able to do that one computer to another?

@maryanneprice09 If you don't have access to your old computer, all you can do is go find them again on the internet or download new ones

when you copy the 'saves', which folder do you paste it in?
