Moving TS4 game files/data to new PC

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this and I tried to check if anyone had asked this before but didn't find anything I was looking for, so I'm sorry if this has been asked before! English isn't my native language so I hope all this makes sense!

I'm getting a new PC soon and I was wondering if I could move my game data (which I have on an external hard drive since I didn't have enough memory space on my old PC) to my new PC, so that I wouldn't have to download all the expansion backs, game packs etc. again or is that not possible?

I know I can at least move my old save files/mods from my old PC to the new one, I've made copies of those into the same external hard drive where I have the game data. Mainly just wondering if having the game data from my old PC is somehow gonna make the EA App malfunction if I have my external hard drive plugged in when trying to install TS4 on my new PC or should I just delete the game data from the hard drive?

Hopefully this makes at least a bit sense!

  • @eppongi  If you can still use Origin, at least temporarily, then yes, this is possible.  (Some players can use it, and some can't.)  Origin has a Locate Game function, so what you can do is copy the game's program files to where you want them to be, open your Origin game library, right-click on the Sims 4 icon, select Locate Game, and point it to the folder where the program files are.  You can download a copy of the Origin installer here:

    https://answers.ea.com/t5/Origin-Client-Web-Technical/Downloading-and-installing-Origin-Windows-and-Mac/m-p/11915666

The EA App does not have this function yet.  If you want to try anyway, you can start the install process, pause it, copy the program files to where you want them installed, and unpause.  The EA App may verify the files instead of downloading them again, or it may just go ahead and download everything anyway.  Outcomes seem to vary.

If you do need to use the EA App, then definitely unplug the external drive before trying to install Sims 4.  The App has trouble when it detects multiple folders with the game's program files, sometimes dumping data into the wrong folder.

@puzzlezaddict Thank you, that's exactly the info I was looking for! I had to switch to EA App earlier this year so I guess I'll be using it on the new PC as well, I'll leave the external hard drive unplugged like you suggested just to be safe. Thanks again!
