I've managed to solve the problem [at least on my end]
It had something to do with my vampire pack that went wrong. Origin lost connectivity and when the games download got to 90% it disappeared meaning it was ghosting in my game.
I deleted the files [GP04] within the sims 4 and I also remembered I'd installed Sims 4 studios and uninstalled that in case that was causing any problems too.
Now I've removed both things [even though origins still thinks I have vampires installed] I can click on both computers and bookcases in both new and old saves.
I've no idea if this will help you @HH546 but if you have any faulty files or studios installed then I guess it's worth a shot!
