My game crashes on launch

Hey all ,

Since november 21st I have the issue that my game keeps crashing on launch.
At first I kept trying and eventually I got in to the game. But this doesn't work anymore either.
I keep getting a white screen, black screen, white screen, black and then I'm back on my original screen. Since today I just get a white screen.

So far I tried:
- Downloading the newest drivers for my pc that needed an upate
- Deleting my mod folder and TSR CC manager folder to check if they gave an error
- Repairing the game through steam
- Re-installing Sims
- I disabled Steam Overlay
- I did adjust some discord and Nvidia settings to optimize
- Checked if I have enough space for the game
- Checked if my pc is good enough for the sims (I'm playing the game for a while, but you never know.
- Checked for broken files in my CC content.

Nothing seems to work. I do have some temporary files and crash files. But I am a noob on this so I can't read them, nor do I know if I can delete all my temporary files.

Does any of you know what to do?
Thanks very much.

  • @Quiinntales  Rather than providing the crash logs, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you moved but not read by the game.)  Don't add anything to the folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs.

If you get another crash, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

If the new save runs fine, you can copy your existing save to the new Sims 4 folder and playing it, but don't add anything else yet.  Since you're copying rather than moving the save, you don't need to worry about the effects of not having your custom content present—the original will be intact while you experiment on the copy.

  • Hey all ,

About a week ago I made a post about my game that kept crashing since november 21st.

For a view days the game worked fine. But since a few days it keeps crashing again. It depends on the day I think wether it crashes or not.

    what I did was:

    - Downloading the newest drivers for my pc that needed an upate
    - Deleting my mod folder and TSR CC manager folder to check if they gave an error
    - Repairing the game through steam
    - Re-installing Sims
    - I disabled Steam Overlay
    - I did adjust some discord and Nvidia settings to optimize
    - Checked if I have enough space for the game
    - Checked if my pc is good enough for the sims (I'm playing the game for a while, but you never know.
    - Checked for broken files in my CC content.

I got the tip to remove the sims folder from my pc so it would create a new one, but that didn't work either so I run a DxDiag report. I attached it to this post. I hope any of you knows what is wrong, cause at this point its super frustrating haha :D

    Thanks very much!

@Quiinntales  I've merged your new post with your old thread in order to keep all the relevant info in one place.

Your dxdiag shows that your primary monitor is running at a higher resolution than native, and also an unusual resolution that may not work well with Sims 4.  So please set the resolution to 2560x1440; the option is under Windows Settings > System > Display > Advanced display settings.  While you're there, set the refresh rate to something under 100 Hz, just as a test. You can switch back later, once the game is stable.

If that doesn't help, please do a clean uninstall and reinstall of the Nvidia graphics driver.  Your dxdiag is full of errors related to the driver, which might be due to the atypical resolution you're using.  But if using the native resolution instead doesn't help, the driver needs to be replaced.  Here's how:

Instead of using the newest driver from Nvidia, try one from September.  It's simple to update from there, but installing an older driver if the newest one doesn't work would require another clean uninstall.  You can find older drivers here:
