My Game Wont Launch

I remember a few weeks/months ago I had this problem, I fixed said problem, but now its back again and I'm coming here to see if I can fix it for good.

My game wont launch.

Steam says it's running, however I've sat here for the past 30 minutes and the game still won't launch.

Here's what I've tried:

- Verified my files on steam (Didn't work)

- Repaired the EA app (Didn't work)
- Uninstalled and reinstalled the EA app (Didn't work)
- Renamed my folder to "The Sims 4 OLD" to let a new one be made (Didn't work)

I know for a fact, it is not my mods or cc, I'm genuinely losing my mind, is there anything I can do?

Just in case this is relevant I have my PC specs here:

Device name: Faiths-PC
Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX with Radeon Graphics 3.30 GHz
Installed RAM: 32.0 GB (31.4 GB usable)
System type: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Pen and touch: Pen and touch support with 10 touch points

(I won't include my device and product ID as I feel that would be private data that shouldn't be shared)

  • Upon further testing and research... OMG i needed directX for this game to function, why my pc didnt have it by defult i'll never know

  • @FaithTV_  You're right, it's best not to post your device or product ID on a public forum, although it's difficult to accomplish anything with that information.  What I'd rather know is the location of your Documents directory.  (Your computer has several Documents folders, but only one is the directory per Windows account.)  Sims 4 will try to store user data in this location, and if it can't, this is one of the possible results.

So please search in Windows for command prompt, open it, and enter this command, starting with reg query:

reg query "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders" /v "Personal"

Then post the result.  You can write [username] instead of your actual username if you want, but please leave the rest intact.

I hope I did this right, but I'll add the screenshot of the command prompt too just in case it helps!

    Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.26100.2605]
    (c) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

    C:\Users\Faith>reg query "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders" /v "Personal"

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders
    Personal REG_SZ C:\Users\Faith\Documents

    C:\Users\Faith>

If i did this right, good, I hope you can figure out what the heck is wrong with my game lol.

@FaithTV_  That looks fine, unlike a number of other players who've had issues with the location of Documents lately.  But that means that the location isn't the source of error.

If you use a third-party antivirus, try disabling it, temporarily of course, and verify the files in Steam again.  Try to play with the AV still disabled; you can reenable it after you've tested.  If that helps, set exceptions for TS4_x64.exe and TS4_Launcher_x64.exe.  If it doesn't help, please run a dxdiag and attach it to your reply.

@puzzlezaddict I can try that, but I do have ADHD, is there a way you can simplify those instructions, I know it could be a while until you respond so I'll add another response if I figure it out before you can get back to me. I have no clue what AV means, I'm assuming antivirus, I have Norton, so basically I think its turn off Norton, verify the files again and Launch it? I hope that works, if not I will send that dxdiag thing.

  • @puzzlezaddict so I figured it out, turned off Norton for an hour, verified my files, still wouldn't launch, I have the DxDiag file, all my drivers are updated (well I did check, and no updates came up so it wouldn't be that I think) anyways here the file.

  • @FaithTV_ Also a little note, I had to download DirectX off Microsoft so I could do the DxDiag command because for some unknown reason I didn't have it... Out of curiosity I tried to launch the game again... and it did? but idk if that's the problem fixed or not, if this really started from not having DirectX I'm going to be upset, not at Microsoft or EA, but mad at the situation. Though if the DxDiag tells you anything I'd appricate knowing if something is there that shouldnt be or some thing...

@FaithTV_  Sims 4 does need DirectX 9 or 11 in order to run, but if at least one of these hadn't ever been present on your system, you wouldn't have been able to play in the first place.  And the EA App installs DX9 alongside the game itself.  So it's concerning that whichever version of DirectX you installed just now had previously disappeared.

The Sims 4 crashes in your dxdiag point to a component of the Nvidia graphics driver, but that could have been because of the missing DX version as well.  Still, if you run into more trouble, please do a clean uninstall and reinstall of the Nvidia driver, as described here:
