My sims 4 game is struggling to run

For a while now my game has just been really struggling to startup. When I try to boot up my game it stops responding and takes a few minutes to load which was never an issue for me until recently. Now my game randomly freezes up and lags almost a good 75% of the time. I've tried running a clean game file which works fine but as soon as I put my old game file back in it reverts back. I do play with mods and have tried batch fixing them and removing them one by one but nothing seems to work. I can provide a dxdiag if needed but I've cross-referenced the specs needed and my computer is compatible. I'm not great with computers or files and don't know what to do, any help is appreciated.

@sasha_arlert  Please double-check: open Manage Worlds > Manage Households > Other Households and look for any that are blank.  This isn't an issue if your existing NPC sims' households going blank; these households are generated in large numbers for no apparent reason and drag down game performance.

Your dxdiag does show some errors related to a basic Windows process as well, so it's a good idea to run a couple of checks on your Windows system files:

    • Hit Windows key-X
    • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Command prompt (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
    • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes into the window, and enter
    • The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
    • After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
    • Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Command prompt (Administrator)”
    • Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes into the window, and enter
    • Post the message you receive here

Restart your computer, hit Windows key-i, select Update & Security, and click the button to check for updates.  If any install, restart again afterwards.

  • @sasha_arlert  Does your existing save have a number of blank households in the Other Households category?  There's a known issue with the game generating dozens or hundreds of these and dragging down performance as a result.

If you don't see any blank households, please post your dxdiag anyway, so we can take a look.

I'm not sure that the households are blank, but maybe I'll try turning the number of households in settings down. I'll attach my dxdiag since I'm not sure that It's my save as much as it is something else wrong with my game. Thanks! 🙂
