the antivirus i use is the standard windows 10 antivirus

@tanquilsio  Please try reinstalling Origin and playing through that.  Not everyone can run it, but for those who can, that sometimes addresses the issue.  You can download Origin from here:

If you see an error about Origin being offline, restart your computer and try again.  If Origin prompts you to switch to the EA App, try launching Sims 4 from TS4_x64.exe or a desktop shortcut.

Even if you'd rather use the EA App, this is a useful test.

i tried installing origin but it still did the same thing, i couldnt get the game to run and it didnt show up in the task manager. should i just give up on playing the game?

@tanquilsio  I definitely don't think you should give up, and I certainly won't.  There's no good reason you shouldn't be able to play.

Please create a new admin Windows account and try to play through that.  Make it a local account, as in, don't sign into Microsoft, and don't sync with any other services you normally use.  You'll be able to sign into your usual EA account and won't need to reinstall Sims 4, but your user content won't be available.  That can be addressed later; for now, just let me know whether you can play at all.

@tanquilsio  I understand why you'd be ready to give up, but I'm not.  My next suggestion would be to clean-uninstall the game, and Origin while you're at it, and reinstall it into a different folder, one you specifically create for this purpose and that isn't inside another folder.  (For example, C:\Games would work, but not C:\Program Files\Games.)  To uninstall Sims 4:

• Put aside your Sims 4 folder in Documents\Electronic Arts and rename it to something that doesn't include the words "Sims 4."
• Download Revo Uninstaller (the free version is fine) from here.
• Launch Revo, select Sims 4 from the list, and click Uninstall.
• Once the game is uninstalled, select "Moderate" under "scanning modes," and click Scan.
• Review the list, in case there's something you want to save; otherwise, click Select All, and then Delete.
• Close Revo, and restart your computer.

Next, uninstall Origin:

• Quit Origin if it's still open, then right-click on the Task Bar and open the Task Manager.  Scroll through looking for Origin entries.  If you find any, click on them and End Task.
• Next, clear Origin's cache.
• Launch Revo again and uninstall Origin, and when it's uninstalled, select "Moderate" again and Scan.
• If Revo finds any remaining registry entries, select all, delete, and click Next.
• Revo will display "Remaining Data and Folders.  Select all of them except for the "Origin Games" folder, if it appears.  (This is where other Origin games are installed by default.)  Delete the rest.
• Close Revo, and restart your computer.

Download a fresh copy of Origin and install it, then download the Sims 4 base game into the new folder.  Please keep using Origin for now, as it's more reliable than the EA App.

If this doesn't work either, do you have any friends or family members whose accounts you could borrow?  It's worth testing a different account just to make sure there's nothing wrong with yours.  It's also worth trying to play through Steam, where the base game is also free; if you try this, I'd do so with a separate Steam account linked to a separate EA account, just to be thorough.  If this does work, it's trivial to link your main Steam account with your main EA account and install the game through that, and you could also download the packs you own in the EA App into the Steam install.

ok when i downloaded the addons i have for the game it stopped working again, so im thinking theres a problem with one of the expansion packs ive got
