my sims wont launch past the main menu

I'm having some issues with my sims since I updated it last night. Once I tried to go on it after it had updated I seemed to be having problems with it coming on. I can get it open to the main menu and that will all be fine, but if I try to make a new sim then no sim character will come up for me to customise. It lets me pick their traits and set their name but I am unable to do anything to create a sim other then that. So what I then tried to do was just randomise what the sim looked like without seeing and try and launch the game but it just sat stuck on the plumb bob loading screen for about 40 minutes. Another issue I'm having is I can't launch any saved games it just has a loading circle on the load game tab when I press it and nothing happens. Then on top of this it wont actually let me shut down the game and I have to shut down my whole pc for it to actually go away. So long story short, besides being able to eventually get to the main menu after it has spent some time loading, it just refuses to launch or load anything and remains on the loading screen. I'm just hoping someone can maybe give me some help or advice because I'm not super techy so I can't seem to understand what has happened, let alone fix the issue.

  • @lydiavictoria02  Please repair the game in Origin: open your game library, right-click on the Sims 4 icon, and select Repair.  This may take care of some of the issues, at least.  Please test to see what does and doesn't work.

If your game still has issues, please move the entire Sims 4 user data folder out of Documents\Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  Don't add anything to it yet; just see if you can start a new save and play for a bit.  Test out both the CAS features and live play.

If that does well, you can copy one of your saves from the Sims 4 folder you moved to the new one in Documents\Electronic Arts.  (Saves are unsurprisingly located in the Saves folder.)  See if the save works, and let me know either way.

If your game still has issues even while you're playing a new save in a clean folder, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.
