Neither Sim or any customization options apear in CAS

I updated the game last night since not playing for a couple of months, and when I launched today, everything was fine until I clicked "New Game"

When the CAS screen loaded, I noticed the Sim was gone, so I waited for a bit and it didn't show up. I closed the game, Origin, and opened everything again and the issue was still the same. I even left for a few minutes to see if it was a huge loading time or something, but it never showed up, the only thing on-screen was the game HUD, and the backdrop, which, if noteworthy, is a night sky with clouds and stars.

Here's a screenshot of the issue.

Thanks beforehand for any help provided.

I fixed it, repairing the game through Origin, then restarting seems to be the fix.

Do you have any Mods or CC? If so move your Mods folder to the Desktop and delete localthumbcache.package. Then test the game.

If it works now check for updates to your Mods and CC. Add it back a little at a time while testing until you have found all that are broken.

  • I don't have any mods or custom content installed, I trashed it all before launching the game this morning, including the cache folders in the Sims 4 folder in My Documents\EA Games.

    I have updates, though.

Apparently, the lack of customization options is just a soft-lock caused by the Stories feature implemented a few updates ago, clicking the X in the lower-right corner and then choosing the Cancel Story option solves this and causes the name, life stage, walk type, voice, gender, and trait customization options to appear.

However, the Sim is still gone-- not invisible, because if I click where the sim should be, the clothes or physical appearance options don't appear, it's just not there.

The only way to even see the Sim is the preview icon on the lower-left corner of the screen.

You can still hear the voice of the Sim, by the way.
