Not able to switch to DX11 - Sims 4

Hey, I have a NVIDIA graphics card and it does support dx11 and even dx12 but I dont have the option, to change it to dx11. I tried it, but it didnt work. I also dont have the setting in the graphics settings in the sims menu
  • @JeniJenfred  ReShade and GShade work fine with the DirectX 9 version of Sims 4, just not the DX11 version.  Or they may have been updated by now; I didn't check.  But the point is, whatever version you were using before the patch is not going to work with DX11 mode.

The inability to alt-tab is a known issue with the DX11 version as well and has been reported extensively.  I'm sure EA will fix it sooner or later, in fact it was previously an issue and was fixed, and now it's back.

  • @JeniJenfred  Please remove any command line argument you've added in the EA App under Sims 4 > Manage > View properties.  These override anything else and will get in the way while troubleshooting.

If you have a laptop with dual graphics, please open the Nvidia Control Panel (right-click the desktop to see the option), choose Manage 3D Settings > Program settings, find TS4_x64 on the list, and choose the high-performance Nvidia processor.  Do the same for TS4_Launcher_x64.  If this doesn't make Sims 4 use DirectX 11, click Global settings and choose the Nvidia processor there instead.

If none of this helps, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

@JeniJenfred  You have a desktop, not a laptop, so you wouldn't see any options related to dual graphics.  (And your processor doesn't have an iGPU anyway.)

Please remove GShade, which is causing Sims 4 to crash at least some of the time.  Repair the game (again) afterwards.

Please also update your graphics driver, which is over a year old.  You can get the newest driver here:

    https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/

Choose GeForce, 20-series, 2060 Super, Windows 10, and download the game-ready driver.  Run the installer as an admin: right-click the download and select "Run as administrator."  Restart your computer after installing and before trying to play.

And just to clarify, there isn't a DirectX 11 option, there's a DX9 option with the other graphics settings, to the right of the post-processing option.  If you still don't see that, and you've definitely removed any command line argument in the EA App (under Sims 4 > Manage > View properties), let me know.

Thank you for your help. I'll try that straight away. However, I have never had any problems with Gshade. I've had it for ages. Is it the same problem with Reshade?
