Odd behavior

So I have been lucky with sims, never had problems (apart from the usual, i am gonna freeze and shut down for no reason) (so i save often)...apart from yesterday morning :(...

So i was in build mode, and after a while it wouldn't let me build , i was building a fence and placed one and when i placed another the first fence would disappear. or when i tried to place a chair it disappeared to. then I would go into live mode and the game wouldn't play (stuck on pause) I could go back into build mode but cant build. Going to main menu I would be stuck on loading screen. So have to alt,ctrl.del. end task.
Logged out tried again, same again. Logged out again, but went to build only for same lot, i could build - great -...but when i went to play the sims same issue again.

OK so uninstalled everything, Put my save file on a USB. Went to move save file after installing---and its not there -----

OK so my question...why did this bug happen? was it a corrupted save file? how does one get a corrupted file? How did I loose a save file on a USB? How do I get over loosing over 3 weeks of work :( ? How do I stop this from happening again?

Thank you for reading and any help that is given.

  • ZinnaCookie  To be clear, you moved the save file to your USB stick, and now your USB doesn't show the save?  How exactly did you move the file?

Separately, uninstalling the game shouldn't have removed your saves; they should still be intact in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4, unless you happened to have installed the game itself in that exact location the last time around.  Other than that one scenario, this Sims 4 folder isn't deleted during the uninstall process.

I moved the file with copy and paste to the usb stick.

I uninstalled the game twice, first time with the save file still there and the bug still happened, then i uninstalled again with the save file gone, thinking that might help, but I have no idea if that worked as the save file was not on the usb stick :(.

You can also check onedrive.com if OneDrive has been active on your computer.  Even if you never use it, OneDrive could have synced your files in the background without your noticing.

As far as corrupt saves go, the files themselves are typically intact, just not readable by the game, or if they're readable, they can't be loaded properly.  The file itself shouldn't just vanish.
