Package files are opening with notepad ... ?

I have no idea what happened, but when a mod didn't work like it should, I went into my mods folder and discovered that all the package files are able to be open with notepad.  I opened the mod in question (it's to tweak aging) and once there was English in there.  Now it's all this:  {3UÌPUéåÖýcÂÒÊ0Æž›Ì⩝ô˜½íÓ;t£éÜÙ8Ù!‘

Is there a way to fix this?  Hair, clothes, shoe mods are showing up.  So I really don't know if any damage was done, but I do know that the aging mod isn't working correctly anymore (it was just updated several days ago) and I can't read it anymore.

Thank you

Edit - When I open the mod package file with s4pe it's legible.  Do you think the mod should be working correctly?

  • You probably associated package files with the notepad by accident. There's really no reason to open those unless you want to poke around. They are not readable in notepad, that's normal.

The game doesn't care which program you have associated with the files.

Check with the creator of the mod to see if it's still compatible with the current patch.
