Pixelated Graphics

Hi, I just got a new laptop and went through and redownloaded everything from my previous laptop. After the Sims 4 was finally updated I went to run it only for it to tell me it couldn't run due to an incompatible or outdated video drive. I restarted my laptop and that problem was solved. My new problem and the one I'm coming here for is now that I can get the Sims 4 to run, the game is just pixelated with large gaps of black screen and I'm unable to click on anything to fix any settings in the game. I tried repairing the game and it didn't fix it. I have an Intel Iris Xe graphics card, which I read on a few different sites, here and on Reddit from people asking their own questions about the driver, that it should be able to run the Sims 4 just fine. Does anyone know how to fix it?

@Bubble_Goatz  Your dxdiag shows crashes of some system processes that should be addressed.  Whether they're related to the Sims 4 crashes, I don't know, but they could be contributing.  First, please run a couple of basic checks of your Windows system files:

    • Hit Windows key-X
    • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
    • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes, and enter
    • The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
    • After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
    • Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator)”
    • Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes, and enter
    • Post the message you receive here

Restart your computer, hit Windows key-i, select Update & Security, and click the box to check for updates.  If any install, restart again afterwards.

This is the driver download page for your laptop:

    https://www.asus.com/laptops/for-creators/zenbook/zenbook-pro-15-flip-oled-up6502-12th-gen-intel/helpdesk_download/

With any of the drivers mentioned below, if you get a message that the you already have this version installed, go ahead and install the driver anyway.  It shouldn't do any harm to reinstall, and it could help with the errors in your dxdiag.

If asked, select your BIOS model name (UP6502ZD) and OS (Windows 11), then click Expand All on the right side of the screen.  Under Chipset, first download and install the entry called "Intel Chipset Driver," right above the next category (Audio).  Run it and restart your computer.

Next, again under Chipset, find the Intel Dynamic Tuning Technology (DTT) Driver.  Download and install that, and restart again.  If you get an error when trying to install, please let me know; one process that keeps crashing on your computer is a component of this driver.

Under Audio, install the Realtek Audio Driver version V6.0.9357.1, which is the second entry under Audio after the Codec Console Application.  (This one is a newer version than what you have installed, unlike the others.)  Restart again.

Finally, under Graphics, download the first Intel Graphics Driver, version V30.0.101.1631, but don't install it yet.  This driver is actually older than what you have installed, but Asus may have tuned it to work better with your laptop than the newest and more generic Intel driver.  In order to install it, you'll need to first clean-uninstall the current driver, as described here:

    https://crinrict.com/blog/2019/02/clean-re-install-of-graphics-drivers-with-display-driver-uninstaller-ddu.html

Finally, go back online and test Sims 4.  If you have the same issue, let me know, and please post a new dxdiag.  You can try the newest graphics driver from Intel again if the one provided by Asus doesn't work, but I'd rather see a dxdiag and hear the results with the Asus driver installed first.

@Bubble_Goatz  First guess is you have an outdated Intel graphics driver or you have the wrong graphics driver installed. Figure out which graphics device you have then go to Intel site and download the latest driver and install it.

  • I checked my device manager and found that I have two different graphics drivers installed. I went to Intel and found an update for only one of them and so I downloaded that one, restarted my computer, and the problem is still persisting. I found a different thread on here after a bit of digging while I was waiting for things to download and found that someone who got the same laptop as me (an ASUS Zenbook Pro 15 Flip) was having the same problem and was told to do the same thing of finding the updated driver, downloading it, and then restarting their computer. They said it had worked for them, so I'm unsure of why it isn't working for me.

@Bubble_Goatz  You actually only have one graphics driver installed.  You have two GPUs: a chip integrated into the processor (the Iris Xe chip) and a discrete graphics processor (the Arc A370M).  The same Intel driver works for both.

Since you've already installed the most recent driver offered by Intel, the next step would be to clean-uninstall and reinstall it.  But before you do that, I'd like to look at a dxdiag.  You can run one and attach it to a post.
