Play/speed buttons don’t work when baking/cooking

Every time my sims bake or cook a meal, the buttons for pause/play/speed doesn’t work properly, either they don’t work at all or they lag/get stuck and I have to keep pressing them for them to work. ...

xLilacSims​  If you'd still like help troubleshooting, please let me know whether this happens with new sims in a new save on an otherwise-blank lot.  I'm not saying you can't play with your existing saves, of course, only that it would be useful to know how the game reacts with as little overhead as possible.
