emurray09 It sounds like this household depends on some mod-related content. There are a number of known causes, but one popular one is a dish from a custom recipe somewhere in the house. The workaround, other than putting your mods back of course, is to remove any dishes lying around, which you should be able to do in Build mode.
Another potential cause is that one of your sims has only custom traits, which of course disappear when you remove your Mods. The game can't load a household with a sim that has no traits.
You could use the 50/50 method to figure out which mods are necessary to load this household and go from there. But if you're not going to play without your mods anyway, it's a moot point.
When yo usay you can't assign an animal to a shed, do you mean that that animal is stuck in inventory? If so, please use this master bug thread:
Animals stuck/disappeared in inventory (Patch 1.108.318) | EA Forums - 4970326

The weird thing is, I don't use any mods. Just CC. Would CC cause this, too? All of my sims in that household and three of the rooms do use CC, but other than that it's a home I got off the gallery that only uses EA content (it is a pretty detailed 64x64 lot, though). When I removed the mods, I was able to evict them and move them to a separate EA-created home, but still couldn't load in. Any other ideas of what this could mean? And yes, I believe the glitch is related to that bug. My cow doesn't show in my home or personal inventory, it just shows up when I click "assign animal to shed" but it's grayed out and my sim can't do the action. The first cow worked fine, this was the second cow I got after the first died. I submitted a comment on a related bug report.
