Our security software installed is WebRoot from Best Buy. Is there anything specific we should do or look for?

Don't know that but check if there's a quarantine or a place where you can add exceptions and add thesims.com and origin.com as well as ts4.exe and origin.exe
You probably do or the game won't run at all. It might be just called ts4 and origin without the exe.
