Re: DLC download error

So, I got a CDkey code, and it was accepted and everything and the code says it's been used (by me).  The issue is that I cannot download my Eco lifestyle pack.  I can hit the download button as many times as I want, the download circle will go for a few seconds before closing or it will just darken the EA app and then do nothing.  The game is IN my library, it's waiting to be downloaded but the app won't download it for some reason.

No, I don't have the demo downloaded, cashe has been dealt with, changing the download location or whatever doesn't work, and repair doesn't work.  I've tried it all.

  • We are having trouble downloading new content from the EA app. We bought a new Sims4 Pack but we aren't able to download it. While attempting to "fix" it I accidently uninstalled all of the packs we have bought. Now, when I click download on my purchased packs, nothing happens.

I want to uninstall Sims4 and reinstall it to see if it fixes the problem, BUT I have 2 concerns.

    1) When I back up the Sims4 folders on my computer, how will I know which ones have the saved games AND

    2) How do I know EA will let me download the game again since it isn't letting download the packs?

I do own the packs, when I click on manage add-ons, they are all there in the list of downloadable add-ons but when I click on the download button, nothing happens. All the buttons turn gray but nothing happens and nothing shows up in the download manager.

I really just want to talk to someone who can help me.

@chalkfamily  Your saves and other user files are in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4.  This folder shouldn't be deleted when you uninstall the game, but it's best to make a backup anyway.

We don't know that the EA App will let you download the game again.  If it doesn't, please create an EA App error report, as described here:

    https://help.ea.com/en/help/ea/ea-app/run-ea-error-report/

And post the report ID in this thread.  I've merged your posts with this thread because we've had a few recent reports of the Download button for certain packs not working, all gathered in this thread.

Having said that, if you reinstall the base game and leave all the boxes for your packs checked off, you don't need to worry about a pack's Download button not working, since you won't need to use it.

  • I've recently purchased a bundle pack including university, tiny living, and dine-out for the Sims 4 on the EA app. I've never had this problem before when using Origin but it's my first purchase since the update using the EA app and the game pack bundle I just purchased isn't downloading/installing. When I try to download them, the screen goes dark for a second only for the download button to grey out but then nothing happens. I tried looking at the download queue but nothing appears in there either. I tried to download another game to see if it was a universal issue but that one had no issue downloading. I've cleared my cache multiple times, I've reinstalled the EA app, I've repaired the Sims 4 game as well and nothing has worked. I've also contacted the EA support line but no response yet. Does anyone have any solutions?

@DroppedSuey  I've merged your post with another thread about this same issue.  Please create an EA App error report, as described here:

    https://help.ea.com/en/help/ea/ea-app/run-ea-error-report/

and post the report ID in this thread.

You can try uninstalling and reinstalling the entire game if it wouldn't be too much trouble.  This wouldn't delete your saves, although it's a good idea to make a backup copy of the Sims 4 folder in Documents > Electronic Arts anyway.  This folder contains all your user data—saves, mods and cc, saved households and builds, etc.—and its contents can be swapped in and out as warranted.

Thank you so much for your help! I did end up uninstalling and reinstalling all of my games, expansions, and packs but it worked! I was also able to install another expansion pack after doing so without any trouble!

    Hi @mcat2408,

Are you seeing any kind of error code or error message when you try to download your packs?

  • Hi All,

I recently purchased Sims 4: Growing Together and have been trying to download this pack. When I click on the "Download" button on the EA app, it becomes grayed out and nothing else happens. As recommended by various forums I have tried several individual tactics to try to fix the issue including:
    1/ Updating Windows with restart.
    2/ Repairing the game (EA app-Sims4-Manage Add-ons-repair).
    3/ EA App-Help-App recovery
    4/ Restarting the EA app.
5/ Restarting Windows with EA app restart.
6/ Reinstalling EA app with Windows restart.
7/ Relocating downloaded Sims 4 files so EA app didn't recognize them as downloaded and reattempted to solely redownload Growing Together.
8/ While files were still relocated, C:/ProgramFiles---EADesktop-- Run as administrator.
9/ Returned the Sims 4 Files to their original folder (EA app recognized them as downloaded) and re-ran the "repair".

After each attempt I hit the download button and it continues to stay grayed out. Also when I go to the Growing Together page on the EA app nothing happens when I click "download". It states I own the add-on and I have record of my purchase. I have 65GB of storage available on my hard drive so I don't think it's a space issue.

    Hi @xlilmonkie

I've merged your post in with the main thread on this issue- please try a full uninstall and reinstall of the entire game rather than just Growing Together by following the steps here

If this doesn't allow you to install your pack, please run an EA Error Report with these steps, and attach your Report ID in the thread here.
