Re: ea app not opening the sims 4

I have a fresh install of the EA app (which opens) and a vanilla copy of Sims 4 that just keeps looping back to the EA app over and over. I've followed all the online "fixes" and none work. Running Windows 11 with all drivers up to date, 1TB HDD, and enough power to play Mechwarrior 5 on high graphics. So what's the deal? Why won't this old game run for me?  Administrator mode on and off, Windows Defender exception added, yadda yadda... Nada, zip, zilch.

  • @BeestieReally  Thanks for the dxdiag, which lists a number of Sims 4 errors that point to a core component of Windows.  That component is probably not corrupted; it's much more likely to be a problem with some other process that uses this resource.  Still, please run a couple of basic checks of your Windows system files:

    • Hit Windows key-X
    • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
    • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes, and enter
    • The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
    • After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
    • Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator)”
    • Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes, and enter
    • Post the message you receive here

Restart your computer, hit Windows key-i, select Update & Security, and click the box to check for updates.  If any install, restart again afterwards.

If that doesn't help, please try launching Sims 4 in windowed mode.  Go into Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4, open Options.ini, search for fullscreen , and set it to 0 (zero).

@puzzlezaddict Ran both. Msg on the last one was, "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."

Did you need the CBS.LOG from the 1st one?

Fixing to reboot and see what happens.

@puzzlezaddictThat alone did not work. I went looking for the options.ini, but could not find it.

EA app did not install the game in documents on my computer. It went in C:\Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 4 and there is no options.ini in there. Looked for hidden files, too.  Did a full windows search and could not find that INI file anywhere.

@BeestieReally  Options.ini is in the Sims 4 user folder, which is in Documents > Electronic Arts.  If the game has never worked on this computer, you may not have this folder at all.

As a test, please create a new admin Windows account and try playing there.  It needs to be local, as in, don't link it with your Microsoft account.  You'll be able to (try to) launch Sims 4 without reinstalling anything.  Let me know how it goes.
