Sorry it took me so long to reply, I've been busy lately.
Make sure you run the game on your GeForce card:

- I don't have any option to configure switchable graphics. I did the first part though, and was trying to see if it would work, but it just broke again. The only graphic cards I have are intel and nvidia, also.
Nvidia is the right one. It's an Nvidia GeForce.
- After the most recent time of the sims crashing, my computer has not been able to power on correctly the first time I try and turn it on (it usually works when I restart it afterwards). I'm not sure if it's relevant but it is pretty unnerving to me and it's happened both times I've turned on my computer since I last played, the first time being immediately after my computer crashed. That crash was after I had set the program settings for the sims 4, too.
@roberta591 could you have a look at this? Sounds like there is something else going wrong with your computer. Roberta is better with things like that than I am.

@chronachan The Nvidia driver should be updated. Are you playing the game with the power brick plugged in. Are you playing the game with the computer on a hard flat surface. Do other games run with out crashing? How does the computer work if you are not playing games? When you turn off the computer, does it turn off or go into the sleep mode? I also recommend going to the Lenovo support site and see if the are any newer drivers for hardware (mouse, touchscreen, etc) and update those drivers. Do you typically run more then one program at thte same time? Try closing all other none needed programs and try the game.
I'm going to make sure the drivers are all updated right now. The computer normally runs really well otherwise, and I've played and experienced a crash both with my computer plugged in and with it not. I have to fully turn off my computer when the games crash it, not just put it in sleep mode. Also, I have tried having almost nothing open but the game, and it's still crashed.
