Re: Error 804: my game will not let me play any households

@h71m7x35dpzi   Really need some background. Did the game ever work on the computer your using? Is your computer a pc or mac? Do you have the Sims 4 demo installed? Is your base game a Steam version? What antivirus are you using?

  • it did work but all of my lots were unplayable and showed an orange warning sign so i customized all of them. that could be related. i have a pc. no demo. my base game was installed from ea. i dont use an antivirus anymore but i dont really use my computer for anything other than games or homework so i dont think it could be a virus.

@h71m7x35dpzi  Do you see the orange exclamation points in a save that's never seen mods?  I ask because it's a known issue:

    https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/NEEDS-SAVES-Orange-Exclamation-signs-over-lots-Houses-disappear/m-p/10534581

It can be mod-related too, so if you only see the problem in saves that previously had mods, that's probably the cause.

The question about an antivirus was more about a third-party program potentially blocking Sims 4 or its access to the user data.

@h71m7x35dpzi  Okay, if you have a save that has this problem and has never been exposed to mods, please provide your save in the bug thread I linked.  In fact, if you're not having any other issues, I'd rather merge this thread with that one.  But if there is something else you'd like to troubleshoot, let me know what that is, and we can do that here.

For that thread, all you'd need to do is post saying here's a save that's affected and has never seen mods.  It would be helpful if you could provide at least one save; it looks like the thread hasn't seen much traffic lately.  Here are instructions for passing along the save file:

    https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/INFORMATION-How-to-Send-User-Files-to-The-Sims-4-Team/td-p/6065302

As for fixing the problem going forward, try a new save in a clean user folder, as in, move the existing folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  This will allow the game to spawn a new folder with no content.  Don't add anything to it yet; just start a new save and see whether it's affected.

If that doesn't work, uninstall Sims 4 and the EA App, restart your computer, and reinstall both.  I don't have anything more helpful than that, unfortunately.

I also don't know of a way to fix this problem in already-affected saves.  Loading an unaffected backup, if one exists, is the only suggestion I have.
