Re: Game doesn't maintain speed

@KDav42

Please try the following:

  • Exit your game and Origin.
  • Move your 'The Sims 4' folder ( Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 ) to your desktop. (Save this "The Sims 4" folder for reference.)
  • Then start the game, and a new 'The Sims 4' folder will be created by the game.
  • Exit your game and Origin.
  • Now re-add a copy of the 'options.ini', 'screenshots' folder, 'saves' folder, and 'tray' folder from the "The Sims 4" folder on your desktop into your new "The Sims 4" folder ( Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 ). Replace/overwrite the newly generated files/ folders with the old files/folders from the desktop "The Sims 4" folder.

Now please enter your game and begin a new game save and see it the issue is present in the new game save. If its working fine you can test in your old save in the same household you were having issues with.

If you have Mods or CC do not re-add your old Mods until after you've done all of the above tests. If all is working fine then you can begin to re-add your Mods a little at a time re-checking after each to see if any of them were causing the issue.

  • Hello

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately, this didn't solve the problem. I decided to start fresh and deleted my saved game yesterday which seemed to fix the problem for a little while but now it's happening again. I've also freed up more space on my computer but this doesn't seem to have helped. Do you have any other suggestions?

    Thank you!

    • Do you have Mods or CC - or did you previously have them?
    • When this issue occurs where the fast speed does not maintain and seems to snag, is the game (or your computer) acting overwhelmed (lagging or acting up otherwise)?
    • Please try closing all other programs on your computer that can be closed, plus browser tabs, to see if this helps.
    • Please try playing in offline mode. (Setting is in Origin)
    • From the main menu, please go to "Options Menu" > "Game Options" > "Graphics" and set "Display Type" to Windowed; Set "Graphics Quality" to medium; make sure 'retina' 'post-processing effects', and 'Uncompressed Sim Textures' are unchecked; Then press the button "Apply Changes" and save and exit the game. Then test to see if the issue remains.

Can you please provide a DxDiag file and attach it to your reply here? Directions: https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/pc/how-to-gather-dxdiag-information/

  • Thanks again! I tried all of the above but the problem is persisting. The changes slowed the loading of the game (not sure if this is relevant?) but when I got through to gameplay, the speed up still didn't work.

I don't have any mods or ccs and I haven't noticed any other kind of lag or issue with the game. I've created a DxDiag file and attached it.

Thank you again for your help! 🙂

I'm checking on the DxDiag file now and will update you if it indicates any issue.
