Re: How to fix "TS4.exe"

@masuloi  I've moved your post to the Sims 4 PC tech section.

The old shortcut was likely broken by the November 12 patch.  Trash it and create a new one.  TS4_x64.exe runs the standard edition, and TS4.exe the Legacy Edition, but it apparently doesn't matter so much which one you choose—Origin will load the game correctly either way.

You can manually create a new shortcut from either .exe.  Unless you've changed the default install location in Origin, the file path will be:

Program files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 4\Game\Bin

(or Bin_LE for TS4.exe)

Right-click on the .exe and select Send to > desktop.

The easiest way to troubleshoot mod issues is to move your entire Sims 4 game folder out of Documents\Electronic Arts (you can put it on your desktop) and launch the game to create a clean folder.  If the game loads normally, the issue is something in your old folder.  You can test your mods in batches in the new folder; any batch that causes another black screen needs to be split and tested again until you've found the problem file(s).  Once your mods are sorted out, you can copy the contents of Saves and Tray from your old folder into your new folder.

If the game still doesn't load even after you remove the game folder, please run a dxdiag and attach the results to a post.

@puzzlezaddictYour response is greatly appreciated so thank you very much! I see you have added how to create a shortcut, but where do I find "game" and "bin". Here's a picture of files when I click "sims 4".

@masuloi  In your screenshot, you're looking at the Sims 4 game folder in Documents.  That's where user-generated content (like your saves and saved builds) is stored, not where the game's program files are located.  This is the path you'll need:

    Program files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 4\Game\Bin

If you're having trouble finding it, open a new File Explorer window and click This PC on the left.  Then choose the hard drive where Sims 4 is installed (C by default, unless you changed it) and go to Program files (x86) etc.

Good to know, thanks! Okay so I figured where the 'Program Files (x86)' was located, but when I went through your instructions my folder came up with nothing inside. Here's a picture!

@masuloi  Well, the game must be installed somewhere, if it can be launched on your computer, however temporarily.  Search your PC for "graphicscards.sgr," which will also be in the Bin for the game.  You'll be able to see the file path as well, so you'll know where the rest of the files are located.

I can't find graphicscards.sgr. How else can I get the shortcut?

What do you mean right away? I did download it in the past with origin.

@masuloi  I mean, do you currently have the game installed on your computer?  If it's fully installed, it by definition has all the files listed, including graphicscards.sgr.  It could just appear as graphicscards, no .sgr at the end, so try searching for that.  But of course if the game isn't installed, that would explain why these files are all missing.

@Whenpigsfly1233  Sure, but can you let me know exactly what the problem is?  Most importantly, does your game run if you launch it through Origin rather than from the shortcut?  And do you have the standard version of Sims 4 or the Legacy Edition?

when i launch the sims 4 game it just goes to origins and i want to have custom content but i have to get rid of my custom content, how do i fix it and still have my custom content?

@icarly1235  If you're missing TS4_x64.exe, the issue isn't your custom content, it's likely your antivirus.  Repairing the game should put the .exe back, and then you can set an exception for it, and Origin.exe as well while you're at it.

If you have a different issue and bad custom content is the cause, try using the 50/50 method to sort through it.

@bteeiangd  Right-click on the desktop shortcut with the admin icon on it, select Properties > Compatibility, and uncheck the box to run it as an admin.

If the game still won't load, please let me know what happens when you try, and whether you're currently using an admin account on your computer.

I have the same problem as OP. I tried launching through Origin and the page "blinks" (for lack of better word) and nothing else happens. I also clicked yes on the original pop-up that said "The item 'TS4.exe' that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly. Do you want delete this shortcut?"

There is no TS4.exe or any variation in the Sims bin folder or bin_le folder.

@lilytaylor422  Do you have a TS4_x64.exe in the Bin folder?  If so, right-click on that and select Send to > Desktop (shortcut) to create a new shortcut.

If you don't have that .exe either, please let me know what antivirus you use.
