Re: I have no sound - The Sims 4

@ToriBartlett  Deleting or not deleting config.log should have no effect at all, that's what I was saying.  Since it's just output, deleting it neither helps with crashing/freezing nor erases your settings.

My question was whether you have the same issue if you delete options.ini, load Sims 4, don't change any in-game settings, play a bit, quit, and reload.  Please try this and let me know.  I realize you need to change some options to play properly, but again, this is not supposed to be a solution or viable workaround, just an experiment that will hopefully provide useful information.

Your Realtek audio driver is from 2015, which could be the issue, although I'd still like you to try the above.  Since your dxdiag also lists a number of errors with Windows components, please run a couple of basic checks on your Windows system files:

  • Hit Windows key-X
  • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Command prompt (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
  • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes into the window, and enter
  • The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
  • After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
  • Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Command prompt (Administrator)”
  • Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes into the window, and enter
  • Post the message you receive here

Restart your computer, hit Windows key-i, select Update & Security, and click the button to check for updates.  If any install, restart again afterwards.

Now try manually updating your audio drivers.  Hit Windows key-X, select Device Manager, open the Audio section, click on the Realtek entry, and click the green and black Update button at the top of the window.  Repeat for any other entries that have Realtek in the name, then open the Sound section and repeat.  Restart when you're done.

After you've done all this, please let me know whether you have the same issue both when you change your in-game options and when you don't.  If you still don't have sound, please post a new dxdiag so I can compare the driver versions.

Yes, sorry for the confusion I understood what you were saying about the file. I was confirming that it caused the same behavior.

Also, yes not changing the settings works exactly the same.

All in all as long as the options file is deleted and I start the game it works fine.

If I do not delete that file is where the issue is. I have to delete it before I open the game each time.

If not there is no sound and it freezes/crashes my computer at exit.

The first run had no errors, the second gave this message -

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them.
For online repairs, details are included in the CBS log file located at
windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For offline
repairs, details are included in the log file provided by the /OFFLOGFILE flag.

The system file repair changes will take effect after the next reboot.
    PS C:\WINDOWS\system32>

I followed the rest of your recommendations and did have a couple updates as well. A security update then a realtek update.

I did my final restart with high hopes!... but same issue nothing has changed.

@ToriBartlett  Try doing a clean uninstall and reinstall of the graphics driver, as described in this article:

    https://crinrict.com/blog/2019/02/clean-re-install-of-graphics-drivers-with-display-driver-uninstaller-ddu.html

This is the driver for your card:

    https://www.amd.com/en/support/graphics/amd-radeon-r9-series/amd-radeon-r9-300-series/amd-radeon-r9-380

Restart when you're done and before trying to play.

If that doesn't help, do you have headphones or earbuds you could temporarily plug in?  Even if the computer isn't in a convenient place for you to use them while playing, please at least check whether you have sound the second time you launch after deleting options.ini.

If that doesn't help or you don't have headphones, please run a new dxdiag and attach it to a post.  I'd like to look for any errors that are new since we started troubleshooting.
