Re: my sims 4 saves are gone

@Katydid97

You mention still having the saved games in your Saves folder. If you still have your saved games in your Sims 4\saves folder -
[C:\Users\Username\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\saves]

It may be the game isn't reading the save files correctly.

Have you tried renaming your saved game file?

To rename your save, remove the version number. - .ver0 or .ver1 by deleting the .ver1 on the end.

For example:
Slot_00000002.save.ver1

Rename it to:
Slot_00000002.save

You may want to give it a different number if you already have a save 2 in your folder. The game should then recognize the save file again.

-- If you have an old auto save file (Slot_00000001.save) it's safe to delete as the game doesn't use it anymore.

If the above doesn't help, Crinrict has some very useful tips on saved games disappearing:

When I've come across this problem of having a lot of saves in my game and need to rename them is to move the saves folder to the desktop, and take only a few or so, maybe 10 at most at a time, and rename them in a 02.save, 03.save, 04.save, etc. up to 10.save

    For example:

    Slot_00000002.save
    Slot_00000003.save
    Slot_00000004.save

Load the game, select a save from the Load Game Menu and take notes of what save is what. To help keep track of the saves better.

I tried renaming but then i got this warning pop up saying "if you change a file name extension, the file might become unusable". Is it still safe to do it?

I have the same problem, but when I open my saves folder nothing is there. There is only another folder that says scratch, does this mean that all my saves are lost?

The saves may have been moved to OneDrive or another folder on your computer. To see if this is the case, search for Sims 4 on your computer.

Click Start, in the search box type in Sims 4. Go to where the path takes you.

By default it should go to: C:\Users\Username\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4

    - This is where user files get installed and saved.

If it takes you to OneDrive, move the Sims 4 folder to your desktop and turn off or disable OneDrive.

Moving the Sims 4 folder to the desktop or back to the Electronic Arts folder and turning off OneDrive is safe to do and helps the user folder not be saved to OneDrive anymore.

Sims 4 and Onedrive don't work well together. If the user files aren't in the Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 folder, the game can't see or use them.

My save has gone too... followed all steps from this post and still no look. When I find the sims folder on my computer the saves folder is empty. And when I find it elsewhere I still can’t find the saves. Please help my daughter is devastated

If you've already tried searching your computer [Click the Start button and in the search box, type Sims 4 and follow the path it gives you] and checking that the game files weren't saved to some where else on your hard drive, external drive or OneDrive, you might try contacting a local computer repair shop to see how much they'd charge to possibly recover the Sims 4 files.

Something that maybe worth trying is to launch the game, create a new Sim and save the game. Go back to the Main Menu and press the Load Game button. Select a saved game. Mouse over or hover over the tiny folder under the game saves information. Like shown in the photo in the post linked below:

This will hopefully give you an idea of where the game is saving your saved games.

did you check on the path and make sure your old saves aren't in a different location than the game is using ?

If your game is a ver file is it the same process of something different?

    E.g

    Slot_0000001e.save.ver1

@Xhloemaee Could you explain a bit more what you're trying to do ? If you remove the .ver one, the backup save game becomes active.
  • I'm trying to find my saved game that I lost and its not in my one drive or anywhere else. In my saves I have about over 100 and a lot of them are .VER or .VER0 .VER1 ect...

@Xhloemaee Those are backups. I would start by going through the ones without ver.

Did you delete the original save that you lost ? Did you check all the ones that are not .ver ? Do they all show up in your game ?
  • I didn't start checking them bc I didn't know what the VER ones were and I didn't want to do something I shouldn't. But now I know I'll start going through my saves

Im literally having this problem right now! I made a lot in Magnolia Promenade, but since I didnt have any neighbors I decided to make different families in the world of Newcrest. Today I get ready to login and play my sims 4 family and its gone... most of my saved game files were duplicated. Each one I tried to click kept putting me back to my Brindleton Bay family home. Even when I KEPT trying to click my newcrest family it kept bringing me right back to the Brindleton Bay family home. I dont know what to do........

@Launtra03  When you load the save and land in a household in Brindleton Bay, is this within the same save where your Newcrest family lives?  You can go to Manage Worlds to have a look.  If the Newcrest household is available, you can just switch back to them.

If the Brindleton Bay household is in an entirely different save, please go into Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\saves, and remove all the files inside.  (You can put them in a folder on your desktop.)  Move back just one of the save files, specifically one that ends in .save, not .save.verx, launch the game, and load the save showing at the Main Menu.  If it's the Brindleton Bay household again, quit without saving, remove that save file, and try a different one.
