You could try purposely killing them, here is a link with the ways Sims can die in Sims 4.

- I can kill them...I tried it out, to see if death in General was the issue. However, I'd prefer them to die a natural death as I've not had any die that way yet lol...and they were a lovely couple
In the settings there's a setting that turns off aging, you might want to look at that.
