  • @Ed1776  So you removed the -nosound line, restarted Origin and the game, and it didn't help?  If you didn't quit and reopen Origin in between, please try it now, just in case it makes a difference.  (It shouldn't, but you never know.)

Please also test with a different sound device, e.g. headphones vs. the built-in speakers.

It's probably not directly related, but Dell lists an urgent BIOS update for your laptop that you don't have, and a chipset update for the Intel Management Engine Interface as well.  It's a good idea to install both, first the BIOS and then the chipset driver.

I tried setting the audio option to headphones and using them instead of the speakers and still no audio. I updated the BIOS and the chipset update and still no change.

  • @Ed1776  Just to check, please launch the game, put it in windowed mode, then right-click on the speaker icon in the Taskbar (on the right side).  Open the volume mixer and make sure Sims 4 isn't muted.  (You can only see this setting for apps that are currently open.)  If it's not muted, right-click on the speaker and open sound settings, then advanced sound options, and see whether changing the output for Sims 4 from "default" to a specific device helps.

If that doesn't make a difference, close the game.  Under the same sound settings, click "Sound Control Panel," and try assigning a different default device.

I put it in windowed mode and the game was not muted. I changed the output from default and again no luck. I am unable to assign another device under the sound control panel. I only have the option for the speakers in the laptop. I will see if I can find some external speakers and hook them up and see if that makes a difference.

I just realized that hooking up external speakers would not make a difference because they a would plug into the same jack that headphones would. I am not getting any audio through headphones with Sims 4 as well.

  • @Ed1776  In the Sound Control Panel, there's an Advanced tab as well.  If you click on that, is the box checked to allow apps to take exclusive control?  If so, please uncheck it; if not, check it and see what happens.

The box for exclusive control was checked, I unchecked it and still no change.

@Ed1776--can you try to change to a different setting from the drop-down menu under "default format"? it's also in the Advanced tab. worth a try to test all the options you have there while the game is running.
  • @Ed1776 Hello, I was reading carefully the whole post because I have the same problem and it has not been solved either. In my case this started after the update fix. Just today I opened the game and I find myself without sound. If you find a solution please let me know.

@Ed1776--and you had both options under 'exclusive mode' enabled?

i wonder if the Alienware Command Centre might have something to do with this, if it's running while the game is. it's weird that it's only on this one game though.

i'm sorry i'm unable to suggest anything else. ☹️
  • I have the sound problem after one of the latest Updates. No solution has worked for me. Still no sound. Is this a known Ticket for the EA Support?

Nothing has worked. At this point I'm just going to wait for the next update and hope that fixes the problem.

@pixelschubse I finally got it to work. Right click on the Speaker icon on the task bar and select spacial sound and turn that on. (for me it said spacial sound - windows sonic for headphones) I hope this helps.
  • If you don't mind my asking could you go into a more detail description? Where would I find the task bar and speaker option?

@Hologram3  The taskbar is along the bottom of the screen, at least in the default Windows layout, and the speaker icon should be close to the right edge.

  • I had the same issues. Right click on the sound speaker icon and click "sound" then you should see something to reenable. Click yes and boom... you can hear voices again
