No, they just look at wares that are there and then walk over to what they want to buy.
You should get the money, the ware gets removed and a sign is added and then the customer leaves. There should be no option to ring them up again unless they come back after leaving the lot

Yea but some of the time nothing is happening at the end of the "Ring Up Customer" transaction. When it is successful, the little money icons spiral out and you get the pop of simoleans showing profit. However, sometimes the ONLY thing that results from the ring up transaction are retail perk points. I can ring a customer up 2-3 times in a row and get no different result. They want to buy, my chica pulls out her tab to ring em up, and then no money comes.
EDIT / Answer: Ok so I've confirmed the issue is indeed that the customer decided to buy something that just went out of stock. EG two customers were interested in the same item, rang up one for it, and a few seconds later a second customer becomes ready to buy the item I just sold. When this happens, the final ring up will result in nothing unless I can manage to squeeze in a restock of the same item type.
