Re: Problem with 64-bit/32-bit Origin

Hi @FutsuIsTrash,

This is the error message you are getting, right?

warning message about not meeting required specifications

If so, it's usually better to listen to the game developers 😉

This is how you would change from 64 to 32 bit:

1.- Go to your game library in Origin and right click on The Sims 4 game. Select Game Properties:

2.- Go to Advanced Launch Options tab, select The Sims 4 32 bits in the 'When launching this game...' option, and finally Save the changes.

That's it, enjoy your game!

@rosa22005  If you're on a Mac, that's normal: both the standard version of TS4 and the Legacy Edition are 64-bit, and you can't switch between them this way.  Origin will launch whichever version your Mac supports.

Similarly, a computer running 32-bit Windows will not see the option to switch to 64-bit, as it can't run any 64-bit apps.

If neither of these is the issue, right-click on the Sims 4 icon in your game library and select Repair, then restart your computer and look for the option to change to 64-bit again.

    Hi!

I bought and download sims 4 last night.  I've just tried to play it for the first time and I got the message saying i need to change to 36 bit).  I'm confused by this because before purchasing, I checked I had the right specs on my laptop.  I just double checked and I do have a 64 bit system.

Regardless, I followed the instructions. I closed the game and went to origin and opened the game properties. I selected advance game properties.  However,  here it only gives me the option of sims 4 64 bit or sims 4 legacy  edition 32 bit.   I selected the deluxe one even though I didn't buy the legacy version to see what happened.  I clicked on play, and it says I need to download the  legacy version.

    Please can you help me?

@Nature_geek89  The Legacy Edition is a free add-on and can be found in the Extra Content tab on the Sims 4 game information page.  (Open your Origin library and click on the Sims 4 icon to see it.)  But before you download it, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post, so we can see whether you do in fact need the LE.  Origin often tells people they need it when they don't.

@Nature_geek89  Technically, you don't need the Legacy Edition.  However,  I can see why Origin might have said you did.  it often throws that error when a system only has 4 GB (or less) of memory installed, as yours does.  Probably more relevantly, your OS is an original Windows 10 build, never updated.  Many of its drivers are similarly old, including the driver for its graphics chip.  I'm not sure the game even runs on that software anymore.

If you want to go about updating your system, it will kind of be a comprehensive process, at least if you want to do it right.  Let me know whether you'd like help with this.  And if you do, please go here:

    https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/laptops

enter your laptop's serial number, go to the driver download page (you may need to select your OS to see any drivers), and link it here.  The driver page doesn't have any information specific to your computer; it's just the list of drivers for your exact model.  HP makes it hard to know you're looking at the right page unless you start with the serial number though, which is why I'd prefer if you linked the page rather than trying to guess correctly myself.

  • That option doesn't show up for me but it told me to change to 64 bit and my computer is a 64 bit so idk what the problem is.

@Cora815  Does your computer run Windows or macOS?  If Windows, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post:

    https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/pc/how-to-gather-dxdiag-information/

If you have a Mac, you won't have the option to change to 64-bit, as the game has always been 64-bit in macOS.  Instead, Origin will launch the standard version of Sims 4 if it's supported, and the Legacy Edition otherwise.  If you're not sure whether your Mac supports the standard version, please list its full specs, including operating system, as described here:

  • and how do I do that if the "When launching this game..." option is not available?  I am running Windows 10

@jwduncan79  Are you running a 32-bit version of Windows 10?  If so, you won't be able to run the 64-bit version of Sims 4.

Otherwise, try repairing the game: open your Origin game library, right-click on the Sims 4 icon, and select Repair.  If that doesn't bring back the option to switch to 64-bit, try disabling your antivirus temporarily.  A few programs block or even delete TS4_x64.exe, and its absence will prevent Origin from showing you the option to play in 64-bit.  Once the .exe is back, you can set exceptions for it and Origin.exe in your antivirus.

If you're looking for TS4_x64.exe, it's within the game's program files.  Unless you changed the default install location in Origin, the full file path will be:

    Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 4\Game\Bin

I am running 64 bit Windows 10, I have tried repairing the game (twice), I have uninstalled and reinstalled Origin launcher, and I still do not have that option under the Advanced Launch Options.  The only options I have are "Language" and "Command Line Arguments," neither of which are very helpful to me in solving this problem.

I don't know why, but for some reason it keeps shifting over to Legacy Edition at random times and when it does I always have major graphics bugs and scanning issues that give me mondo headaches.

well, I would appreciate any help that anyone can offer, since the problem apparently doesn't want to settle on any one thing (sigh).  In answer to your question, my current antivirus is PCMatic (I was using AVG but it kept causing issues so I uninstalled it).

The problem has once again changed, *now* I have the "When launching this game..." option under the Advanced Launch Options, but the game still won't launch.  It still *claims* that today is the last time I played, but the game itself won't actually start.

@jwduncan79  Try disabling PCMatic just to see whether it helps.  What you've described is exactly what happens when an antivirus blocks Sims 4 from starting, and if that's the problem, then other suggestions aren't going to make a difference.

The driver for your graphics chip is also somewhat old.  If the antivirus isn't the issue, it may help to update the driver.  You can find the newest version made by Intel for your graphics chip here:

    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/30196/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-15-40-

Run the driver installer as an admin: right-click on the download and select "Run as administrator."  Restart your computer after installing and before trying to play.

[grumble]... Well, it was the AV software.  Apparently BOTH AVG and PCMatic were blocking the TS4.exe file from starting... and not telling me they were doing it.  After changing the settings around so that I get prompted for things like that from now on, it works just fine...  Thanks for the assist.

  • There is no option to sélect in my apps advanced launch options part. I have to write it myself. If i write 32 bit, will it still work ?
