Re: Re: unrecognized video card sims 4

@RunaAster  In that Game folder where you first looked, there should be a Bin folder too.  No matter where you install Sims 4, that's the structure of the program files.  If you really don't see it, please take a screenshot and post it here.  Don't copy any files to that folder, just look for the Bin folder and graphicscards.sgr inside it.  You can ignore the file on your desktop; editing it won't have any effect on the game.

    Yes thanks, I found the bin bolder but there`s no graphicscards.sgr inside the bin folder. When I search graphicscards.sgr in the bin folder, nothing comes up. Can I move it from another place in to the bin folder?

    @RunaAster  You could move it, yes, but that's not a good idea.  If the file isn't read properly, Sims 4 would probably not even launch, or if it did, it could crash at the Main Menu.

    Try repairing the game in Origin: open your game library, right-click on the Sims 4 icon, and select Repair.  Then look for graphicscards.sgr again.

    That worked, its now in the bin (:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 4\Game\Bin_LE ( the graphicscards.sgr is there)

    Whats the next step? Trying to get back my old saves? Or copy sim 4 stuff from the old subfolder that was not working to the new elctronics art and sims 4 that the game can read.

    Thanks again for helping.

    @RunaAster  The file should be in Bin as well as Bin_LE.  Please check there too and make sure there's a copy there.

    Now if you want to fix the unrecognized card issue, open the copy of graphicscards.sgr that's now inside the Bin folder.  Use crtl-F to find 5916, change it to 5917, save, and quit.  Then check the config.log file that's in Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 to see if your card is now listed as found and supported.  This is the same approach I mentioned here:

    https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues-PC/PLEASE-READ-Unrecognized-Video-Card/m-p/8882426#M169532

    But don't move any files around while you're doing this, just open the ones mentioned.

    You don't strictly need to complete this step if you don't want to.  When you're done with it, or have decided to skip it, then yes, you can move the contents of Saves and Tray from the old Sims 4 folder to the one that's now in Documents\Electronic Arts.  Your saves should be back, as should any builds or households you've saved to your in-game library.

    It's a good idea to copy the files rather than dragging and dropping them: this way, you'll have a backup copy of everything if you need it.  You can highlight the whole set of files, right-click on them and select Copy, then right-click in the empty space where you want them and select Paste.

    Thank you so much for your help. I will update here after trying that and everything will proberly be working then. Only last issue I have is the bin folder. I can`t find the graphicscards.sgr there. Also can`t reach the file without going into orgin, then application setting and then installs & saves: C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 4. Its seems like you can`t see the stuff thats in the files when you click on that, but my Bin_LE folder is always in my files because it saved itself there for some reason. Did that make sense? I can`t find the correct bin one with the graphicscards.sgr, and I think I know why:

    There`s plenty of more when I go further down. Seems like their one from everytime I played. I had the same issues with the config file earlier when you were helping me, I deleted some of them and then everyone except one was (config I`m talking about).  Should I do the same thing or?

    The Bin folder is the one you are after. Just doubleclick it in the search results to open it.

  • Oh really I was unsure cuz I got told I have to find graphicscards.sgr in a own Bin folder also, but If I don`t . Then I just do the steps that was adviced and seee if my saves will be back. Thank you so much @puzzlezaddict @jpkarlsen

    @RunaAster

    Sorry I was too quick in posting. it should be The Bin folder you are after is the one located here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 4\Game\Bin

    A lot of games and other programs use a bin folder. If I read it correct you decided to delete some of those you found. If so you will need to reinstall the affected games/programs.

  • @jpkarlsen

    That`s okay. No I just deleted some config that was not needed earlier. That was just to show that the same thing is happening my bin now instead of the config (if that made sense?). I haven`t deleted any bin folders, I`m just lookig through them rn. Tying to find the correct date with the bin and see if graphicscards.sgr is inside it.

    Update: I found in the bin folder and now I`m just going to do the steps and seee if my saves will come back. Thanks again

    @RunaAster

    There should be exactly one in the mentioned path. Notice that by default Windows search searches all your drives. You can see it because there are results that only inlude bin such as "binsearch" that do not belong in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 4\Game\ folder. Only bin and bin_LE should be in that folder.

  • @puzzlezaddict

    Now if you want to fix the unrecognized card issue, open the copy of graphicscards.sgr that's now inside the Bin folder.  Use crtl-F to find 5916, change it to 5917, save, and quit.  Then check the config.log file that's in Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 to see if your card is now listed as found and supported.

    I did all that and then I launched the game and quit and it still says

    Name (database): [Found: 0, Supported: 1]

    The modified date also matches the last time I opened the game. Weird but will it keep on delete my game or not? Or is it fine to ignore, that found don`t say 1

    Maybe it will work again when I move everything from the the subfolder to the new electronics arts and sims 4 folder that the game can read

    Also I have run like 3 dxdiag earlier so I don`t think thats the solution, but If you advice that I ofc will do it. Also since everything is fixed else where now maybe a dxdiag is what it need to fix the config

  •  @jpkarlsen

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 4\Game\ folder

    This is the folder (  C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 4\Game\ folder) tho and also bin and bin_LE when I search for them

    No, that is one folder up. You need to doubleclick the Game folder you see in your image.

  • @jpkarlsen

    Oh yea I found the graphicscards.sgr in the bin one too. Thank you.

    One thing tho

    Look at Bin_LE date (thats from the last time I opened the game). Shouldn`t Bin also have that date?

    Also the graphicscards.sgr inside both the Bin_LE and the Bin folder have the correct date (last time I opened game)

    @RunaAster

    No, the date is the creation date of the folder. It changes when there is a patch to the game or you install a new expansion.

  • @jpkarlsen

    Oh I`m dumb so everything fine then. Thanks for the help

    I will updater here later about if I got my saves back.

    Just to clarify, the reason the Bin_LE folder has a last modified date from today is probably because you edited the graphicscards.sgr file inside it.  That won't do anything for your game.  Open the Bin folder, not Bin_LE but Bin, in this screenshot, find that copy of graphicscards.sgr, and apply the edit I described.

    In the future, instead of searching for folders, it's usually easier to open one directly if you know where it's located.  Searches are great for finding stuff, like when you found your config.log, but you can also find files and folders that shouldn't be touched.  In this case, you can open a File Explorer window, click This PC in the left panel, then Program files (x86), and open the successive folders directly from there.

    @puzzlezaddict

    Thanks for the explanation cuz I`m not super handy with computers and its good me to understand the reason. I opened the Bin folder and change the numer to 17. If you mean that was the edit I should apply?  Or I didn`t because it was already numbered 17 (Bin folder yes, not Bin_LE)

    So now I can`t just copy the sims 4 stuff from the wrong subfolder to the new electronics art and sims 4 and see if my saves appear in the game.

    Or do you think its more to do?

    Also with the config

    Name (database): [Found: 0, Supported: 1]

    Will it still be an issue for the gameplay if it will not change to 1? I feel like I done almost everything to try to get it to change but my only question is will it keep on deleting my games or not? If it stays all the time like: Name (database): [Found: 0, Supported: 1]. Because if it will not effect the game or my saves then I don`t care if it reads 0

    @RunaAster  It's not a huge issue, no, although it's always nice to have your card recognized.  If you're ready to be done with this part of the troubleshooting, that's totally understandable.  Just copy and paste (again, don't drag and drop, copy and paste so you have a backup) your saves and Tray items into the Sims 4 folder in Documents\Electronic Arts, and they should show up in your game.

    Yea I don`t think there`s any more to do. Thank you for the help. You been real patient with me and that I appreciate.

    ALMOST ALL MY SAVES SHOWED UP I SCREAMED OF JOY OMG

    THANK YOU THANK YOU

    Also now since I copied I didn`t move but I copied the misssing things, tray and saves to new sims folder can I delete the old sub sims folder? the one the game couldn`t read or should I just leave it there just in case you know

    @RunaAster  You can certainly delete the old folder if you want.  But I would personally keep it, or at least the Saves folder inside it, just in case.  If you don't want it taking up space on your computer, you can put it on an external drive or USB, or upload it to a free filehosting service (Google Drive, Dropbox, Mediafire, that kind of thing).  It's always nice to have the peace of mind that comes from knowing your data is backed up somewhere safe.
