If it only started happening recently, then its probably a bug that occurred because of the new update that came out on the 30th. The best cause of action would be to look if others have this problem as well, file a bug report and wait until the issue is resolved. If you still want to continue playing try to safe as often as you can, so that if the game crashes you don't loose too much progress. You can also set it to autosave your game file, for example with mccc, but if your game is already unstable that might be a bit risky.
