Re: Sims 4 is taking 10 gb to update!!!

@beachfossels  Is the space permanently gone, or did you return to having 14 GB free once the install/update process was finished?

The EA App likes to over budget for updates, for unknown reasons, and 10 GB is actually less than it used to be.  I've seen the App temporarily soak up an extra 125 GB of storage for a 125 GB game, which is ridiculous, but it's not a problem on your end.

It would be best to clear a little more space on your C drive if you can.  While 14 GB free is enough to avoid day-to-day problems, it's not great for the overall health of your drive, plus Windows won't be able to install a feature update when the time comes.  That requires 20-25 GB free or an external storage solution.

@puzzlezaddictNo I still only have 4 gb. All of my computer's storage space is taken up by the EA app and the sims games. I can't clear anything else. When I check the base game hasn't gone up in size nor has the packs I have. Not sure why it still took away the extra 10 gb it usually doesn't when I uninstall then reinstall.

@beachfossels  Try uninstalling just the EA App.  Use the free version of Revo Uninstaller so all the hidden files are removed too.  The idea here is that the extra space is probably due to some hidden files that you wouldn't be able to find on your own, so let an app do that for you.

If that doesn't help, please let me know how large the Sims 4 install folder is.  This is not the folder in Documents > Electronic Arts but rather the one in Program Files > EA Games or wherever you chose to install.  You can right-click the folder and select Properties > General to see the overall size.

@puzzlezaddict I'll try that! Kinda worried though because I finally got sims 3 to work without constantly freezing. ☹️ I checked though and I didn't see a sims folder in program files // ea games, just documents // electronic arts.

@beachfossels  You can find the install location through your EA App game library.  Click Sims 4, then Manage > View properties, and you'll see the file path there:

@puzzlezaddict Oh ok! mine is in the documents folder. It's 50 gb, when I uninstalled it, I was at 64 gb & it said it would only take 50 gb so that's why I'm so confused about the extra 10 gb taken.

You have all the files in C program files that holds all the game packs you downloaded. The one in documents is your personal game files for builds, sims and other items.

It sounds like you could clear out a few files. If you open Documents and check your Cashe file. It maybe very full then. It keeps a copy of items you saw and is of no use to you. So open the cashe file, click first item you see and scroll down to bottom of images and shift click the last image. This should highlight all of them and then you can delete them. I have had well over 1000 images in there sometimes. If you didn't know about this you probably have even more. This could free up some space!

If you have uploaded all your builds and sims and whatever else you may have created to the galley, you could delete the contents of the tray file also. If you have saved pictures to your library others have created, be careful not to delete them too. This could free up some more space.

If you have exception files in the documents folder they are of no use to you either. You get them for the gameplay not working right which happens way too often. I empty the cashe daily and exception files after I quit.

You can also try the suggestions for C program files.

@beachfossels  One of the problems with installing a game into Documents is that Windows may try to back up the data to OneDrive.  Hopefully you haven't installed Sims 4 into Documents > Electronic Arts, because that would cause even more problems.

At any rate, please uninstall Sims 4 with Revo Uninstaller, as described here:

    https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues-PC/CURRENT-ISSUE-Sims-4-DLC-shows-as-installed-won-t-load-in-game/m-p/12942151#uninstall

Make sure you rename the Sims 4 folder in Documents > Electronic Arts to something that doesn't include "Sims 4" in its name.  If you did install the game into Documents > Electronic Arts, don't rename this folder; instead, grab the saves and Tray folders and put them somewhere else, then proceed with the uninstall process.  The idea here is to preserve your saves and Tray files so Revo doesn't delete them.

Before reinstalling Sims 4, make sure you have 64 GB free storage, or close enough.  If you're still missing that 10 GB, don't reinstall yet, just let me know.

Then I can only suggest if you have any other games downloaded you don't use that you remove them for more space. Other wise it would be a good idea to update C drive to a larger size. Happy Saturday too ♥
