Re: Sims 4 random crashing

@puzzlezaddict

Thank you for replying, I have ran the 2 things you suggested and this is the message it gave me ---- Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

I am about to restart the computer and give it another try, if this doesn't work I will go onto try your other suggestions

Thank you and will keep you updated 🙂

I restarted my computer and launched  the game again, it crashed. I repaired the game again, launched it and it crashed again after about 5 minutes.

I did what you said and  pulled the sims 4 folder onto my desktop and started a new game, it played fine and for longer than it usually does, I then moved one of my saved games  into the new saved folder and again it plays fine,  none of the  characters etc from the prev save (from the crashing game) were there, is this correct or do I need to place somewhere else?

What do I do now?  could  it be too many mods and  cc are putting strain on my computer or could it possibly be a bad mod? even though I have recently re downloaded  them to make sure they are up to date bearing in mind they were all working perfectly with no crashes, lagging etc before I downloaded the latest expansion pack so could it just be too much pressure on my system? I am happy to uninstall and reinstall without one of the expansion packs to put me back to  where I was if  you think that could help?

The odd thing is, I downloaded and ran the  programme speccy and it says my motherboard is running at 127 degrees which  can't be possible! everything else is running at correct temp range.

I'm just a bit confused lol and  not sure why it can  go from running perfectly one day and then crashing the next ☹️

@loubylou1983  I'm not sure how reliable speccy is, but 127º F would be a normal motherboard temperature.  You can try hwinfo instead, if you want.  (It's also free.)  While you're at it, be sure to check CPU and GPU temps as well.

Since the sims you've been playing with weren't present, maybe you didn't move over the save that's been crashing.  You can copy all your saves over to the new folder if you want, but definitely copy and paste, rather than dragging and dropping, just so you have backups in case you need them.  If the formerly crashing save runs well in the new folder, then the issue is most likely mods or custom content, although there are other possibilities.

You can test your mods and cc in batches in the new folder—use the same save that's been crashing, for consistency's sake.  Any batch that causes another crash needs to be split and tested until you find the problem file(s).  Any batch that doesn't cause a crash can be set aside as presumably clean.

If the problem save crashes even before you've moved over any mods or cc, then the save itself may be corrupted.  You can try playing a different sim family for a few sim-hours, again with no mods or cc present, and then switch back to the original.  Or you can try recovering a backup save, if you have one from before the issues started:

    https://sims4.crinrict.com/eng/2014/09/save-games/#wann

The reason I suggested running DISM and sfc (how did those go?) is because the errors in your dxdiag don't mention Sims 4, but most of them do reference basic Windows processes.  A couple also mention MSI software that would probably be active while you play.  So the crashes could be caused by something in the background that's not working correctly or doesn't get along with Sims 4, not the game itself.  That's less likely given that playing in the clean folder went well, but it's still worth running the commands for the overall health of your computer.

Your hardware is fine for Sims 4—it should be able to run all packs together on ultra settings.  That doesn't mean there's nothing wrong with your computer, just that this isn't a case of one pack or another being too demanding, or the graphics settings being too high.  Sometimes it takes a while to figure out the source of the problem.

    Thank you for your help.

I moved the save folders over, there was no custom content or mods running at the time and it still crashed, so I'm a bit confused now! It was a brand new game from reinstalling it so there were only a few saves on there.

I will download the other software you suggested, I should have said that speccy says my motherboard is running at 127 degress celcius which is making me think there could be an issue with  my computer running too hot maybe?

I ran the orginal commands first of all and  the reply I got was -  Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

Sorry to bother you, i have found a document called last exception which I found in my sims folder. I dont understand it but  there seems to be a few errors, could this  be  something  to do with  what is happening?

It won't let me attach so have copied and pasted into this, sorry for the length of it I am just getting a bit deflated with  it all now.

Hi there! I don't have an answer but was wondering where you found this document? I think I've been having the same issue and wanted to see if I have this too.

So far I've gone through all of the above fixes (and some) and still haven't found a solution either.

(I don't have any MODs or CC and have never used it on my current device. I've been having this issue for a few months now)

@loubylou1983  Try loading a different household in the same save and playing with those sims for a few sim-hours.  Then you can switch back to the original family,  Let me know whether it crashes.  If it does, try playing a completely new save, and let me know how that goes.

127º C is definitely not a normal motherboard temperature—in fact, it's far above the safe operating temps for any hardware.  Your computer should shut down to protect itself long before that point.  That makes me think either that speccy isn't reading your hardware temps correctly, or one or more sensors are broken or providing inaccurate data.  If you want me to have a look at a hwinfo log, just let me know, and I'll write out how to do it.

It's also a good idea to check out temperatures and other hardware data if a new save crashes in the clean folder, although there could still be other reasons the game isn't working.  But there's no reason to get deflated yet.  Just because nothing has worked yet doesn't mean you won't be able to fix the problem.  If it's a temperature issue, the solution might be as simple as cleaning your fans.  If temps are fine, it might be some conflicting software that you simply have to uninstall or disable.  I'm happy to go through the possibilities in sequence, but it's much easier if we narrow things down a bit first.  That's what testing in the clean folder is for.

@torirmg  A lastcrash file would be in Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4, but the information in them is often not useful.  It would be better for you to start your own thread describing the issue you're seeing in detail.  A dxdiag would also be helpful.
