Re: 'Your Download has paused.' Origin won't update game

@STEPHIEFAB  Try running Origin as an admin: right-click on the Origin icon and select "Run as administrator."

I am having the same problem as Steph. Tried running as admin, did not work. Did a test downloading of another game (on Steam) and a driver download from nvidia without any problems. So I would have to guess it is an Origin thing. Anyone else having problems?

  • @Baal62  There are a handful of reports today (not only with Sims 4), and I think Origin updated yesterday, so there may be some issue with the new version.  You can try messing with the User Access Control settings on your computer to see whether it helps.  Type "uac" wtihout quotes in the search box in the lower left corner of your screen, open UAC, shift the setting to the lowest (or the highest, as you're supposed to get a notification every time), click OK, and test.

Please make sure any other antivirus/firewall you run isn't blocking Origin.  If necessary, you can temporarily disable it, just long enough to let the downlaod go through.

I appreciate the quick reply. I have now tried the update with UAC in each position with the same result  (waiting on permissions). I also tried it with Windows Defender disabled (currently not running any 3rd party protection software), also with no joy. The computer is 2 weeks old and only used for gaming, no social media etc, so it is a really clean new windows install.

  • @Baal62  Try creating a new Windows admin user account, one with only letters and numbers (no special characters) in the name.  Maybe you'll be able to update Sims 4 in that account.

And yeah, I don't know exactly what's going on here, but it's definitely annoying.

  • Annoyingly, i have the same issue but creating a new user account didn't help ☹️ still can't download the game, it still asks for a popup that never appears

@tehmooo and @Simalleyaile  Try installing in a clean boot:

    https://www.windowscentral.com/how-clean-boot-windows-10

Regardless of whether this helps, EA_Tom is looking for more information on this issue.  It would be great if you could generate an Origin error report.  Instructions are here:

    https://answers.ea.com/t5/Origin-Client-Web-Technical/Origin-Client-Your-download-has-been-paused-Waiting-for/m-p/8537513#M58160

Please reply to EA_Tom in that thread with your error report number and your OS.

I am having the same issue. I have uninstalled, installed, run as administrator, cleard cache.I still get messahe a down load can't happen, so I press 'Retry",  "Origin needs to download files and is waiting for permission. Please choose "Yes" when Windows prompts you for permission."

I don't get Windows Prompt. So, per instructions I got I went and moved the slider all the way up, and tried to get updates. Didn't work so I moved the slider down to no notification, that didn't work.

EA needs to get it's * together. No other game client has this issue, not Blizzard, Epic, Steam. Just EA. What is wrong with EA? The Sims4 is the first game i've ever used Origin for and at this point I guarantee it will be the last. It's an update, for gods sake. This should be easy.

    Fix this crap.

@puzzlezaddict dude - thank you so much, it never occurred to me to do this and i totally forgot you even could - thanks to this, i managed to get everything updated and working again. I'm not 100% sure what is causing the error, but it MIGHT have been the origin client and web helper services. Or, it could have been a number of the other services... either way, it's working again now - so mega thanks for your help! If it happens again, i'll try and work out the exact service causing the problem so i can report it

    Thanks again :D
