Really bad stuttering in TS4

I just recently upgraded my 1tb ssd to a 4tb ssd and suddenly my sims 4 game is stuttering terribly. I have taken my mods out and it is still stuttering bad. Someone help pls :')

  • @aliltater  Does the stuttering happen in a new save while your computer is offline?  I just want to make sure before moving on.

If that doesn't or didn't help, please describe to me how you replaced the SSD, I mean not the physical part but the transferring or reinstalling data.  I'm curious whether the issue is on that end, for example did you install the chipset drivers provided by your motherboard manufacturer, or let Windows find drivers for you?

  • @aliltater  Please set your user DPI to 96 (100%) rather than its current 104 (108%).  Sims 4 doesn't always do well with unusual DPI scalings.  Here's how to change it:

I don't see any Sims 4-related errors, but I do see several crashes of Hogwarts Legacy that are directly related to the Nvidia graphics driver.  So it's a good idea to clean-uninstall and reinstall the driver regardless of whether it's affecting Sims 4.  And it could definitely account for the Sims 4-related issues even without an obvious error.  Here's how to clean-uninstall:

If you get more stuttering, please test in a new save, with your Mods folder removed if you use any mods or custom content at all.

Unfortunately after trying these steps I’m still having really bad stuttering. I honestly don’t know what to do. I’ve tried limiting fps, changing the graphics settings. I’m at a loss. It never stuttered like this on my old ssd.

@aliltater  Try playing with Online Social Features disabled, under Options > Game Options > Other.  If that doesn't help, put the EA App in offline mode before launching the game.

If that doesn't help either, take your computer offline before playing.  You can put the App in offline mode again, then disable wifi and/or disconnect the ethernet cable before pressing Play.

If the game runs poorly even with your computer offline, please look for associated errors in the Reliability Monitor.  (I'm not sure there will be any, but it's worth checking.)  Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Look for an error that happened at exactly the time of your most recent Sims 4 play session, with your computer offline.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.

Taking my pic offline seemed to work! Thank you so much!

Just kidding. I spoke too soon and it’s still stuttering terribly. It worked for a while but after about 10 minutes the stutters resumed ☹️

I’ll have to check in a new save tomorrow but it occurs more when im at public lots rather than home lots. All I did was install windows 11 on the ssd from a usb like I did with my last one and then downloaded my graphics card drivers from the nvidia website

@aliltater  Please do let me know about the new save.  It would be a shame to dive into system-level troubleshooting if the problem were contained to some lots in one save, which would almost certainly be a save issue, not anything to do with your computer.

So…it does seem to be just that save which is unfortunate because I had so many nice lots and townies ☹️ Thank you so much for your help!

@aliltater  You could save your sims and lots to your in-game library, then place them in a new save.  They'd lose their relationships with anyone outside the household, and probably a little more data, but mods can restore most of that.
