@Lunar_S0uls If there's nothing else you want to preserve on the external drive, please format it. (Choose NTFS as the format.) If there is some data on the external you'd like to keep, move that data to the internal drive first. Then reinstall the EA App and install Sims 4 on the external.
after a lot of trial and error, I got it to install and finally load up again. my saves/mods etc eare in the default location I want it to be in the example location in the second screenshot, but when I tried the command the other time I kept getting errors
@Lunar_S0uls I can't say for sure what the problem is without knowing the error you're seeing. But if you currently have a Sims 4 folder in Documents > Electronic Arts, you need to move, delete, or rename it. Even if you moved it before, launching the game once recreated that folder. Windows can't create the symlink in a location where a folder with the same name already exists.
If that doesn't help, use this command:
MKLINK /J “C:\Users\[username]\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4” “D:\Game Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4”
Write your actual username instead of [username].
It automatically adds the part before the command, and I am unable to remove that part
@Lunar_S0uls I think the quotation marks might be incorrect. If you look at the screenshots in the guide on Crinrict's site:
you can see they're almost straight. The ones in your screenshot are curved. So rather than typing out the command yourself, please use copy and paste, and only write out the parts you need to, for example your actual username.
the screenshot i sent was copy pasted already, and the time i tried before too. I have tried bot tying and copy pasting, neither works
@Lunar_S0uls Let's try in a new Windows account. Make it an admin account, and local, as in, don't sign into your Microsoft account. For simplicity, name the new account test account , exactly that.
In the new account, do NOT start Sims 4 yet. Create a new folder on D called Game Data , again exactly that. Inside that, create a folder called Electronic Arts , as the game would create on its own. Then copy/paste and this command to create a symlink:
MKLINK /J "C:Users\test account\Documents\Electronic Arts" "E:\Game Data\Electronic Arts"
If it doesn't work, please post the error you get, just like you did before.
I hate to admit that i dont know how to make another account at all
I cannot do anything on the second profile, not even open the link from my email to get here. It also unsinstalled my browser from my main profile when i made the second one. I dont think I will be able to try and do a second profile thing without entirely breaking my main profile
@Lunar_S0uls This is very odd behavior, and honestly, you might need to have someone look at the computer in person. You can just describe how the second profile behaves and go from there. I'm not saying you necessarily need to take the computer to a repair shop; you might have a friend or family member that could poke around and maybe run a virus scan or similar.
There's only so much I can do from here, and I don't want to waste more of your time guessing what the problem might be when someone who's actually there may be able to figure it out in a few minutes.
